That same evening, Jorrod walked through the front door of his home.
As he stepped into the living room, his eyes locked onto a small lamp sitting on the coffee table.
It was incredibly familiar. It was The Memory Lamp that used to sit on his nightstand, the one completely covered in romantic messages between the two of them.
He had spotted Susan taking it out while cleaning his room previously, and he had impulsively demanded it back. Since then, it had stayed by his bed. Every night, he had fallen asleep bathed in its faint, weak glow.
Why was it sitting out in the living room now?
Jorrod stopped in his tracks, bent down, and picked it up.
It was the same lamp, but the clear acrylic board was completely empty.
The messages had been completely wiped clean, leaving zero trace they had ever existed.
A flicker of intense irritation flared in his chest, and he scowled deeply.
"Mr. Vaughn."
Jorrod turned his head.
Wesley Wickham rushed over to explain, "That one is mine. I forgot and left it on the table. You can just hand it over, I'll put it away."
Jorrod froze. His gaze swept over Wesley's outfit.
The clothes he had on were completely identical to the ones Liam had worn in the meeting earlier. Down to the brand logo and the exact shade. They were clearly purchased from the exact same store.
Wesley noticed Jorrod staring and scratched his head sheepishly. "After you gifted me that cologne, I thought it'd be appropriate to buy some stylish clothes to match."
"Oh, right." Wesley pointed at the lamp in Jorrod's hand. "That lamp was a free promotional gift that came with the outfit. They were running a social media giveaway."
Wesley watched as all the color abruptly drained from Jorrod's face, replaced by a storm of dark fury.
Jorrod lowered his long eyelashes, hiding the violent emotions churning in his eyes. His large hand gripped the lamp, his thumb slowly tracing the wooden base beneath the acrylic board.
So this thing...
...was just a cheap piece of plastic garbage she got for free after buying a gift for her ex.
