He was tall, towering a full head above her. With a physical presence that practically screamed dominance, anyone would assume he was the one in control. Yet right now, Sienna could hear an incredibly fragile caution in his tone, as if he were walking on thin ice.
He looked like he was hovering on the edge of shattering—as brittle as fine porcelain. Just a single tap, and he would crumble into dust.
Sienna kept her eyes lowered, deliberately withholding her answer.
The man's gaze darkened further. In the heavy silence, his Adam's apple bobbed nervously.
Sienna could feel his grip tightening on her wrist, his warm, uncontrollable nervous sweat seeping into her skin.
He really was terrified, acting exactly like a panicked child.
"In what capacity?" she finally asked, looking up.
Jorrod's jaw tightened. He stared down at her. "Your secret lover."
Sienna's lips curved into a teasing smile. "What does that mean? So Mr. Vaughn just doesn't want to take responsibility? Didn't you say you liked it when I was on top? What's this about 'staying by my side'? Are you demoting yourself now?"
Her tone was light and utterly playful.
Jorrod froze, his thick eyebrows knitting together as his brain scrambled to decode her words.
"You're an idiot," Sienna stated bluntly. "I never considered you a secret lover. I was just mad at you. I was messing with you to piss you off."
Who could have guessed that the title she used to humiliate him would be treated like absolute treasure? He had played the role perfectly, constantly paranoid and terrified that she might revoke his status at any moment.
"And Julian?"
"He's my cousin. We're related by blood," Sienna clarified. "If he really were my boyfriend, you wouldn't even have had the chance to be my sidepiece."
Jorrod's lips pressed into a thin line.
It made sense.
She had always been fiercely loyal in love. She would never sneak around and keep another man on the side while in a relationship.
Sienna watched as his tense expression remained frozen. He didn't look happy, nor did he look angry.
"What's with that look? Are you upset because you fell for it?"
Of course he wasn't upset.
It was just that a second ago, he was drowning in pure agony, devastated that she was severing their last remaining tie.
