Sienna froze, staring back at him.
Was he upset because she had abandoned him?
She blurted out the question, "Are you mad?"
Jorrod shook his head.
How could he ever be mad at his darling? He never would be.
"Then why..."
"I'm cold and soaked. I don't want to get you wet."
"..."
Sienna seriously wanted to crack Jorrod's skull open to see if someone had implanted a chip demanding his eternal loyalty.
She definitely had to rip that damn thing out.
And throw it as far away as humanly possible.
"Why are you cold? Isn't it because you refused to stay indoors and insisted on standing in the freezing rain? Just to make me feel guilty?"
"No..." He lowered his gaze to look at her.
"I was afraid you wouldn't be able to see me, and I was terrified of missing you. The rain was too heavy to see clearly out the window. Out here, I could at least see the street clearly."
"Darling, you didn't leave me behind, right?"
Sienna was entirely speechless.
She felt as though someone had just plunged several daggers into her chest.
With every strike, a voice whispered in her ear, calling her a monster for abandoning him.
Everyone had a heart. She vividly remembered how ruthless the real Jorrod had been, but she also couldn't ignore the complete, unreserved devotion this amnesiac version had shown her.
She had messed up this time.
Even if she was going to send him away, she needed to find a reasonable, humane way to do it.
Sienna grabbed his wrist again. Her grip was iron-tight, locking down the moment he instinctively tried to pull away.
She finally surrendered. "Let's go. We're going home."
Jorrod was drenched to the bone, his hands freezing cold.
Sienna was instantly reminded of the time Elara had dragged her to a nightclub after a bad breakup, where she was surrounded by heavily made-up male hosts with shirts unbuttoned to their navels, winking aggressively at her.
She awkwardly averted her gaze.
When she looked back up, she met his eyes again.
He had slicked his wet black hair back to keep it out of his face, completely exposing his striking, aggressive features. A few stray strands fell casually across his forehead. Setting aside the innocent look in his eyes, his rain-darkened brows and sharp, predatory jawline made it absolutely impossible to compare him to those eager-to-please nightclub hosts.
She suddenly recalled the terrifying, icy aura Jorrod had exuded when she pissed him off before—the look of a man who would gladly destroy her.
Instantly, a cold chill shot up her spine and prickled her scalp. She involuntarily shuddered.
"Also, don't stand around dripping wet. I hate it."
Jorrod grew visibly tense, glancing around nervously, unsure of what to do. "T-Then I'll go change."
"Wait here," she ordered.
Sienna went to the very bottom of her bedroom closet and pulled out a brand-new bath towel. Thank God she had a habit of stocking up on essentials.
She absolutely refused to let him wear that fitted black shirt again. It was practically the same as him walking around shirtless.
She rummaged deeper and dug out a few of her dad's old clothes. The style was ridiculously outdated and the colors were faded from too many washes, but it was infinitely better than dealing with that sheer black shirt.
