Sienna jumped in fright.
The sudden collapse sobered her up halfway.
"Are... are you okay?"
Oh God, the poor guy's episodes were getting worse.
First no hugs, then no hand-holding, and now he was dropping to the floor in front of her?
She didn't have any loose change to throw at him.
This was just bad karma!
Sienna hurriedly bent down to help him up.
The man rested a hand on her forearm and slowly lifted his head. His hair fell messily over his forehead, and the hazy eyes hidden beneath those dark strands finally slipped back into focus.
Within those dark irises reflecting her image, an indescribable burst of joy suddenly ignited.
Jorrod pushed himself to his feet and crushed her in a sudden embrace, enveloping her completely against his broad chest.
His muffled voice sounded against the crook of her neck. "Darling, you came back. I waited for so long. I thought you were abandoning me again."
His tone grew softer and lighter, nearly melting entirely into the warmth of their pressed skin.
The friction against her neck tickled, and his warm breath made her uncomfortable. She raised her hands to push him away but stopped midway, remembering his condition. Suppressing the urge, she let her arms fall back to her sides.
That word 'again' stabbed harshly at her conscience.
Sienna finally realized it.
Even though Jorrod was regressed, he was fully aware that her departure this morning had been a calculated abandonment.
He hadn't complained or held it against her; it was only when she miraculously returned that his intense fear of losing her spilled over.
Sienna let out a sigh.
Resigned, she raised her hand and patted his back, trying to comfort the oversized toddler who loomed a full head above her.
"I won't."
"Darling..."
