I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 54

She thought for a second before saying, "If you can't reach me, you can call them. It never hurts to have a backup contact, right?"

Jorrod seemed convinced. He pressed his lips together without a word. His thick eyelashes fluttered downwards, casting shadows over his cheeks and making him look painfully pitiable.

He had to listen to Darling. If she told him to save a number, he would save it.

Even if he was intensely bothered by this specific man...

Sienna leaned down and tilted her head, trying to catch his eye from below.

When their gazes met, Jorrod froze.

The eyes in his line of sight were bright and watery. Thanks to the alcohol, a faint flush stained her cheeks. He slowly let his gaze drop to her soft, rosy mouth. A delicious scent of peaches drifted into his nose, and her slightly parted lips looked far more appetizing than any ripe summer fruit.

Without even realizing it, his gaze darkened, and his Adam's apple bobbed.

"Darling..." he murmured.

"Yeah?"

"I want a taste..."

"A taste of what?"

"The peach."

What on earth? Where was he seeing a peach?

Sienna stared blankly until she felt the man's burning, predatory gaze land squarely on her lips.

She snapped her head up, nearly slamming into Jorrod's jaw.

Ignoring the close call, Sienna sprang off the sofa, putting a solid distance between herself and the man.

"No, no, absolutely not! If you want a peach, I'll... I'll go buy you one!"

This was getting out of hand! First hugging, then hand-holding, and now he was fixating on kissing?

Sienna couldn't comprehend it. It was just mashing mouths together—was it really that addictive?

Besides, was this really something a guy with the mental capacity of a ten-year-old should be exploring?

Jorrod lifted his head to follow her movement. "But... you promised me today. You said I was your boyfriend."

Sienna's brain raced. Caught between pacifying Jorrod and avoiding being taken advantage of, she opted for a tactical compromise.

"You were standing out in the rain today. You're probably coming down with a fever or a cold. If you kiss me, what happens if I catch it?"

Just as she expected, the moment she mentioned getting sick, his wounded expression instantly morphed into pure concern.

He even shifted slightly away from her.

"I'm sorry, Darling. You... you should keep your distance."

It was only in moments like this that Sienna was reminded his mental age was genuinely stunted.

A flimsy excuse was all it took for Jorrod to become utterly terrified of touching her, petrified that he might infect her.

Sienna quickly ordered some groceries. Before long, a delivery driver knocked, handing over five pounds of fresh peaches. She washed them one by one and delivered the entire bowl to Jorrod.

He liked peaches, didn't he? He could knock himself out.

When it was time for bed, Jorrod voluntarily headed to the sofa. Sienna felt a twinge of guilt, but remembering the sheer horror of waking up pressed against his chest, she gritted her teeth and stayed quiet.
