I Fell for the Man Who Ruined Me, Then He Forgot He Ever Loved Me Back novel Chapter 75

Sienna couldn't process a single thing.

She bit her lip hard. "I'm skipping dinner."

Keeping her head ducked, she practically bolted back into her bedroom. Aside from a quick trip to the bathroom in the dead of night, she didn't step foot outside her door again.

Early the next morning, Sienna was out of bed before the sun came up.

She didn't give the two of them a single chance to run into each other.

And once again, she broke her promise.

The pendant was still resting against Jorrod's throat, but she hadn't returned to the apartment in three full days.

On the evening of the fourth day, a knock echoed through the apartment. When Jorrod opened it to find Harvey's grinning face staring back at him, the flicker of hope in his chest was instantly extinguished.

For the past few days.

Sometimes it was Harvey. Sometimes it was Elara.

One came to check on his living situation, the other came to evaluate his physical health.

Harvey habitually dropped the bags he was carrying onto the coffee table and did a full sweep of the apartment, only relaxing when he was absolutely certain nothing was out of place.

"Sienna's a busy woman. If you need anything—food, drinks, whatever—just come to your buddy Harvey! When you get your memory back, don't forget me. Hey, wait a minute, I was born in the year of the sheep. Which one of us is older?"

Jorrod didn't answer. He just kept his eyes glued to the front door.

It was as if staring at it long enough would magically summon the person he was desperately waiting for.

But the empty hallway just sat there like a still painting, even the dust motes caught in the light seemingly frozen in place.

"Sienna is hiding from me, isn't she?" he asked, his voice deadpan, never once breaking his stare.

He effortlessly shredded Harvey's 'busy woman' lie right to his face.

Harvey felt a flash of awkwardness but quickly masked it.

Over the past few days, Elara had already warned him that Jorrod's condition was improving. The most obvious sign was his cognitive logic and reasoning skills, which were returning at a rapid pace.

While he wasn't quite back to full normal capacity, the steady improvement was a massively positive sign.

It probably wouldn't be long before his memories returned and he made a full recovery.

Honestly, Harvey preferred the version of Jorrod who couldn't even figure out how to untie his own sweatpants.

That guy was so much easier to fool.

"What happened between you two?" Harvey asked bluntly. "I tried asking her, but she won't say a word. Give it to me straight—did you steal her money? Because there is no way Sienna would be this pissed off and abandon her own apartment over nothing."

"If you need cash, just tell me. I'll front you. When you get your memory back, you can pay me back based on what you can afford."

Harvey rattled off sentence after sentence.

Hearing that, Jorrod finally turned to look at him.

Harvey grinned. "Sienna and I grew up thick as thieves. Make it worth my while, and I'll be the ultimate wingman for you two."

Sienna had never actually planned on abandoning Jorrod.

But the aftershocks of that kiss were just too overwhelming.

Initially, she just wanted to hide from him for a little while.

She figured she would face him once her pulse finally settled down.

She hadn't expected almost a week to pass with the kiss not only refusing to fade from her memory, but actively burning brighter. Being stuck in his company, surrounded by people constantly saying "Mr. Vaughn" this and "Mr. Vaughn" that, relentlessly triggered her memories, setting her ears on fire.

"Sienna, don't head home too early tonight. Our team is going out for drinks! My treat. We need to celebrate having you new recruits on board!"

The speaker was Janice York, the department manager.

She was sharp, capable, and a force of nature. While she had a tough exterior, she had taken incredibly good care of Sienna both in and out of the office.

Sienna nodded in agreement.

In addition to her, Janice had brought on two new interns—one guy, one girl—over the past few days.
