The moment the elevator doors slid shut, Sienna let go of Jorrod's arm, stepping back to put a safe distance between them.
In the cramped space of the elevator, the faint, clean scent of his body wash slowly bloomed into the air.
Jorrod had clearly rushed out.
He hadn't even bothered to throw a jacket over his dark grey loungewear, and the collar was tugged askew from his haste, exposing a pale, sculpted collarbone.
But he had listened to her—a mask was securely fastened over the lower half of his face, leaving only his striking, intensely sharp dark eyes visible.
Jorrod was the first to break the silence.
His Adam's apple bobbed silently before his lips parted. "Sienna... please don't leave again, okay?"
That tiny cot at the office had been killing her back. Sienna had honestly planned on moving back in anyway.
Since he was handing her the perfect excuse, she took it.
"Okay."
The elevator lapsed into silence for a few seconds.
Sounding exactly like the insecure partner in a relationship, Jorrod spoke up again, his voice painfully soft. "Are we... still boyfriend and girlfriend?"
But before Sienna could even open her mouth to answer, he rapidly changed the subject. "Are you feeling sick?"
"Huh?"
"From the alcohol."
"I'm fine."
She actually wasn't fine at all, but she didn't want Jorrod doting on her, and she definitely didn't want him digging deeper into the conversation.
A simple 'I'm fine' was the easiest way to kill the topic.
Sienna had actually drank quite a bit tonight.
On top of her own drinks, she had taken a few hits for Mindy, whose alcohol tolerance was practically nonexistent.
The alcohol they drank was deceptively strong. Thankfully, it hit slow. Aside from a heavy wave of dizziness, she was still holding onto her logic.
But the moment she finished her hot shower, the steam triggered a massive head rush, sending the ceiling spinning violently above her.
Her skin was damp, making it impossible to pull her clothes on properly. After wrestling with them for a minute, she gave up entirely and stumbled out wearing nothing but a bathrobe.
Jorrod had already retreated to his room, but seeing her stumble out wrapped only in a robe and collapse onto the sofa, he hesitated, then walked over, deliberately averting his gaze.
"Sienna, let me help you to your room..."
Sienna peeled her eyes open, her vision blurry. "Why are you going into my bedroom?"
Jorrod froze, instantly realizing how incredibly drunk she was. He corrected her with infinite patience, "This is the living room. It's the sofa."
"It's a foul, do you know that?"
Her soft, slurred accusation froze the man just as he was about to force his eyes away from the rising and falling fabric of her robe.
He looked back up, locking onto Sienna's half-lidded, misty eyes.
"Do you really remember absolutely nothing? About the first time we met."
The first time they met...
If it was their very first time, he knew with absolute certainty that he would have wanted to remember it.
But he scoured the broken fragments of his brain, tearing through the fog with everything he had, only to hit a wall. All he had were fractured flashes of her blowing gently on his wounds.
Jorrod could only shake his head. "I will try my hardest to remember, I promise."
"You don't have to. I can just tell you," Sienna said.
"I bit you."
Predictably, she saw a flicker of hesitation flash through Jorrod's eyes.
She kept going. "And I threatened you."
"Right inside your office. I told you I would make you remember that day for the rest of your life."
