"You were furious. You called your assistant to pull the security footage right then and there, ready to hire lawyers and sue me into the ground."
The air hung dead and silent for several agonizing seconds.
Then, the silence broke.
"I must have done something incredibly cruel to you."
Sienna let out a breathy, bitter laugh. "You called me a nobody. You told me I was blind when it came to picking men. You threw my designs on the floor and stepped on them like garbage. You did it all so effortlessly, like it was just another trivial nuisance that wasn't even worth a blink. So honestly, I have no idea if that even registers as 'cruel' to you."
Jorrod pressed his lips tightly together, saying nothing, but a violent storm of emotion raged instantly in his pitch-black eyes. The reflection of her bitter smile fell into his pupils, soaking in the heavy, unshed moisture gathering there until it swelled and ached.
His eyelashes trembled, his mouth twitching slightly.
*If those are the memories I lost, then I'm glad they're gone.*
He wanted to say it.
But it felt like a coward's escape.
Just because he couldn't remember didn't mean he hadn't ripped her world apart.
His lips moved, but scanning through his broken, impoverished vocabulary, the only words he could find were, "I'm sorry..."
"So your affection just makes me feel resistant, overwhelmed, and entirely confused. It's... too much to carry. It's an instinct. Do you understand?"
Hearing the crushing finality in her rejection, Jorrod looked as though someone had physically crushed his heart in their fist. His pupils violently contracted.
"Does... does it only count as liking someone if you've spent years together? If that's what you think, then please, just give me the chance to stay by your side until you feel I've earned the right to say it."
Sienna paused for a few seconds, then suddenly let out a sharp sneer.
Her brain was suddenly working perfectly, sharp enough to snap back and argue.
That was her evaluation of the situation.
Sienna: "Oh, and about the question you asked me in the elevator. Here's your answer..."
That question.
*Are we still boyfriend and girlfriend?*
Jorrod panicked, desperately trying to interrupt her.
Jorrod had listened to every single word. Finally, he spoke. "I am not leaving."
Sienna had talked until she was blue in the face for absolutely nothing. "Have you ever thought about the day you get your memory back? The line between hatred and love flips overnight with you. I understand this is a symptom of your condition, but you need to understand that normal people have defense mechan—"
"But I am still me," Jorrod interrupted, cutting her off entirely.
"You've made everything painfully clear, and my feelings haven't changed one bit. That proves that even if I remember everything, it won't change who I am right now."
"Everything you've gotten through me has absolutely nothing to do with transactions or benefits. It was all given to you entirely of my own free will."
"I don't have the right to beg for your forgiveness, but I will do everything in my power to make up for what I broke."
"Just treat it as my penance for the disgusting things I did to you. I'm just begging you to give me time to prove..."
Sienna narrowed her eyes. "Prove what?"
"...That you," the man suddenly looked away, "aren't blind when it comes to picking men..."
Sienna squinted, and instantly, a massive wave of vertigo hit her.
