They were regulars at this restaurant, so Sienna efficiently ordered several of Elara's favorite dishes, along with two glasses of sparkling water.
The food arrived quickly, and soon the table was packed with a mouthwatering spread.
Elara rushed in, looking completely drained.
"I'm so annoyed. This patient... I asked her how she got injured, and she started the story all the way back from the blind date with her first husband. I swear..."
"Woah?" Elara stopped mid-sentence, her eyes glued to her friend.
Having known her for years, she could instantly tell something was different about Sienna today.
Sienna had a perfect oval face, and as she slightly lowered her head, the line of her jaw looked incredibly soft and fluid.
Right now, her long hair cascaded like a waterfall over her shoulders. Beneath the restaurant's warm, golden lighting, her pitch-black strands caught a gentle sheen. Her soft curls framed her delicate skin, and paired with the oversized knit sweater, she looked both elegant and fiercely seductive.
"Damn, looking this gorgeous. Are you going on a blind date today?" Elara teased.
Sienna looked up, let out a sigh, and said dryly, "Yeah. He can feed himself, use the bathroom, and recite his multiplication tables. What do you think?"
Elara flashed a highly inappropriate smirk. "Sounds great. Come back to my place tonight; my dog can do sit-ups. I'll show you."
"So frivolous. Pass."
"Hey, seriously, how long has it been since we had a sleepover? Come to my place tonight, Derry definitely misses you."
Derry was Elara's little poodle.
As Elara spoke, she sat down across the table, reached for a glass of sparkling water, and took a sip.
She immediately frowned. "This has no kick. Why didn't you order a drink? I have tomorrow off, I can just call a designated driver."
Elara knew Sienna enjoyed a good drink; it was practically a staple of their meetups here.
But to her surprise, Sienna calmly replied, "I quit."
"Quit? I know you better than that. There's no way you could quit..."
Sienna deadpanned, "Drinking caused an incident."
Seeing her friend look so listless and sound so defeated, Elara was left speechless.
Her heart dropped into her stomach. "An incident? You didn't—you didn't drive drunk, did you??"
But operating on the principle that even if you haven't eaten pork, you've seen a pig run, she offered her assessment. "Pretty fantastic, I suppose."
Elara shook her head, clicking her tongue repeatedly. "That's what makes him an elite genius. A little brain damage didn't affect his performance at all."
"So you've fallen for him." Elara was genuinely curious. She knew exactly how long Liam had chased Sienna before she finally agreed to date him.
It had taken four years for a college classmate to win her over. Not to mention, she and Jorrod had started off with bad blood. If she didn't genuinely like him, there was no way she would have caved this fast.
Sienna instinctively wanted to say, 'I don't'.
But right as the words reached her tongue, the man's face flashed in her mind, accompanied by the impossibly soft, pleading voice from the phone call earlier.
She knew perfectly well that Jorrod couldn't hear what she said right now, but on a subconscious level, she refused to say those words.
Sienna pressed her lips together. "I like his face and his body. Does that count?"
"Of course it counts! Why wouldn't it?" Elara was a notorious appreciator of beauty. When they were sorted into the same class in middle school, Elara had taken one look at Sienna, the math representative at the time.
She had a high ponytail, a tall, slender figure, and flawless skin. Those almond eyes were impossible to look away from. Elara had practically glued herself to Sienna between every class, which was how they became best friends.
Elara's mother had nearly had a heart attack back then, thinking her daughter liked girls.
