Sienna ended up physically supporting Jorrod as they dragged themselves up the stairs.
As they walked, Sienna muttered a quiet warning: "Let me tell you something, Jorrod Vaughn. My parents know everyone on this floor. If you make a single sound, you're dead."
Jorrod kept his head down, leaning heavily against her shoulder. He didn't respond. He heard her perfectly well; he just had no energy to speak, nor the patience to deal with her.
Sienna wasn't going to coddle him. She stopped dead in the middle of the stairwell.
She leaned her elbow against the wall, entirely withdrawing her support, refusing to move an inch.
Jorrod gritted his teeth. "Ugh... understood..."
Sienna scoffed softly. "Oh, so you can hear me. You scared me there, I thought the great Mr. Vaughn had passed out."
Although Sienna had agreed to take him in, she was genuinely disgusted by the whole ordeal.
Especially when they got inside under the bright, unforgiving apartment lights; no matter how handsome that face was, looking at him still made her furious.
She hauled him through the door. Given his condition, she didn't bother making him take his shoes off, instead dragging the towering six-foot-two man straight to the sofa and letting him collapse onto it.
Then, she made a startling realization.
Her small, two-seater loveseat simply wasn't long enough. The man's impossibly long legs had nowhere to go, forcing him to awkwardly plant his feet on the floor. His sharply tailored black dress pants pulled tight, revealing a sliver of black dress socks wrapping around his pronounced ankles.
Sienna frowned, examining the man struggling to fit on her tiny couch, looking him up and down.
Honestly, why did he have to be so tall?
You'd have to buy a custom sofa just to fit him.
Ignoring him for the moment, Sienna left him stranded on the sofa while she ate her dinner. Once she finished and threw away the containers, she went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face.
By the time she finished her routine, over an hour had passed.
Passing through the living room, she noticed the man was still locked in the exact awkward position she had left him in.
He hadn't taken his jacket off. It hung wide open, revealing his pristine white dress shirt beneath. A little higher, his unbuttoned collar exposed pale skin that was flushed an unnatural red, likely irritated from the friction.
His eyes were closed, his handsome face unusually peaceful and compliant. It seemed he had fallen asleep.
Looking at him like this, he almost seemed human.
After staring for a moment, Sienna turned back to the bathroom, filled a small basin with warm water, and crouched in front of the sofa. She soaked a towel and reached out to wipe the grime from his face.
She thought he was fast asleep, but the second the warm, damp fabric touched his cheek, her wrist was seized with a violent grip. She jumped, genuinely startled.
Jorrod's eyes snapped open, narrowing into sharp, calculating slits as he studied her.
Sienna spoke up. "It's me, Sienna."
Like a leopard inspecting an intruder, his dark, intense gaze swept over her face several times.
To be fair, Jorrod had never actually given her a proper look.
Even that day when she had bitten him, with the two of them sitting inches apart on his lap.
He had only been focused on the fiery fury in her eyes.
It wasn't until this very moment that he truly saw what she looked like.
