I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 104

The 'her' Hayden referred to was naturally Lily.

Mrs. Gable immediately responded, "Yes, sir."

Lily was terrified of Hayden, and the rest of the massive house was dead silent.

Mrs. Gable quickly began to coax the little girl.

"Little Miss Lynd, your mother is already asleep. You need to go back to bed, too, or you'll be late for school tomorrow."

Lily was sharp enough to realize Mrs. Gable was lying.

She was certain she had just heard her mother shouting.

Besides, the door to her mother's bedroom was wide open, and the room was completely empty.

But with Hayden towering there like an imposing mountain, Lily didn't dare argue with her father.

Clutching her stuffed animal tightly, she timidly allowed Mrs. Gable to usher her back to her room.

Hayden turned around and headed downstairs.

Out in the yard, Zoe was still pinned in place, unable to move.

He checked his watch. Ten minutes had passed, and Zoe still hadn't stopped cursing him out.

Over the past five years, her personality had never been like this.

She had always been submissive, never daring to show a hint of defiance.

Sure, she had targeted Sienna before.

But she had immediately confessed, shown good behavior, and written a five-thousand-word letter of apology and commitment.

She had promised to coexist peacefully with Sienna from then on.

While she had been with him, she hadn't suffered a single day of hardship.

Hayden frowned, his ears ringing with her creative insults about his family tree.

He pulled his coat tighter and took long strides out into the storm.

The heavy rain relentlessly battered Zoe's body.

She was already soaked to the bone.

"Hayden, you're a bastard! What gives you the right to make me stand out here? This is domestic abuse, and you belong in jail!"

Zoe couldn't fathom that in the twenty-first century, there were still men who treated their homes like personal fiefdoms, getting a sick superiority complex from terrorizing their wives.

She was thoroughly convinced Hayden was deeply disturbed and needed serious psychiatric evaluation.

Hayden held a massive black umbrella over his head. Under the glow of the streetlights, his face looked as aristocratic and refined as ever.

He was the quintessential wealthy elite that any woman would swoon over.

No wonder she had fallen in love with him at first sight.

Looking back now, Zoe only felt like she had been completely blind.

She would never love a man like this.

They had been husband and wife for five years.

Yet today, for Sienna's sake—the woman who truly held his heart—he had ruthlessly forced her to stand in the freezing storm.

Especially knowing her father was the one subjecting her mother to this cruelty.

It would leave the poor girl with lifelong psychological scars.

"Hayden—"

Zoe didn't say another word.

She bit down hard on her bottom lip, swallowing all her bitterness and agony down into her stomach.

Fine.

She would remember this.

Hayden didn't spare Zoe another glance.

His phone buzzed in his pocket.

Hayden glanced at the screen; it was a call from Sienna.

He didn't bother to step away, answering the call right in front of Zoe.

"Hayden—"

Sienna's voice sounded incredibly fragile.

"If you're not feeling well, just rest."

Hayden's eyes drifted to Zoe, who was still standing rigidly in the pouring rain. He enunciated every word clearly.

"I won't let anyone cause you any grief while you're here."
