Zoe woke up the next morning feeling incredibly groggy.
When she opened her eyes, she realized she had somehow ended up in Hayden's bed.
The memories of the previous night came rushing back, and her head pounded so hard she thought it might split open.
She felt a cooling patch stuck to her forehead. With a trembling hand, she ripped it off.
Haydenβ
He had actually forced her to stand in the freezing rain until she passed out.
She slid out from under the covers, but the moment her bare feet hit the carpet, her legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed.
A pair of strong hands caught her right before she hit the ground, pulling her firmly into a solid chest.
The familiar scent of patchouli mixed with expensive shampoo immediately flooded her senses.
Zoe weakly tried to push him away, but her arms felt like wet noodles, completely devoid of strength.
Hayden effortlessly scooped her up into his arms and placed her back on the bed.
He grabbed the bowl of chicken soup he had just brought up from the kitchen.
He was wearing a beige set of loungewear and a pair of soft slippers.
The cozy fabric completely masked his usual sharp, predatory edge.
It gave him a strangely domestic, husbandly vibe.
Zoe turned her head away, refusing to acknowledge him.
Showing rare patience, Hayden blew on a spoonful of the hot soup to cool it down, then brought it to her lips.
Zoe slowly turned her face back toward him, her beautiful features locked into a mask of pure, icy indifference.
"Is it fun making me stand out in the storm, Hayden? What are you playing the good guy for now?"
Even though she was too weak to put up a real fight, she was still bearing her claws. Hayden decided to let it slide.
She was sick, after all.
When Zoe refused to take a single bite of the soup, he didn't force her.
He set the bowl down on the nightstand, his voice devoid of any warmth.
"I warned you. Sienna is my absolute limit."
Zoe's heart gave a bizarre, painful throb.
She let out a mocking scoff.
The morning light was already filtering through the windows.
It was fully daytime outside.
"I know. She's not just your limit. Why don't you just build a shrine for her in your living room and worship her every morning and night?"
He loved Sienna. Sienna was the only one in his heart.
He would never look twice at anyone else.
Zoe knew all of this perfectly well. He didn't need to rub it in her face every single day.
