I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 12

The man's hand holding the pen remained steady and powerful, his veins slightly raised, while the million-dollar watch on his wrist cast a faint blue gleam.

Hayden's final stroke on the paper was sharp and decisive.

Colin took the documents with both hands, only daring to speak when he noticed Hayden seemed to be in a slightly better mood.

"Grandmother Thorne called today. She wants you to visit the Thorne Estate next week."

Hayden's indifferent gaze swept over Colin, illuminated by the passing streetlights outside the window.

Colin felt a bit guilty; he had debated for a long time before choosing this moment to bring it up.

"Hunter is back. He said he brought his girlfriend home to meet the family."

Hayden interlaced his fingers, his eyes darkening.

"Hunter's last name is Keating. Why would he come to the Thorne family to make introductions?"

Colin offered a dry laugh. "That, I don't know."

I'm just the messenger.

Hayden casually closed his eyes to rest. Colin sneaked a few glances at him, but the man didn't react at all.

Inwardly, Colin let out a sigh.

It seemed the boss's emotional outburst in the office today was nothing more than a fleeting moment. Deep down, Ms. Lynd still couldn't compare to his unattainable obsession with Sienna Winters.

Seeing that Hayden hadn't responded for quite a while, Colin tested the waters.

"Should I tell your grandmother that you won't be going tomorrow?"

After a long pause, Hayden half-opened his dark eyes, his expression unreadable.

"Don't make assumptions," he said smoothly.

Hayden looked completely relaxed, shifting into a more comfortable position against the seat back.

His phone vibrated in his pocket.

He pulled it out. Sienna's name flashed on the screen.

His brow twitched slightly, and out of habit, he answered immediately.

Right then, Colin's phone rang.

Since Hayden had just finished his call, Colin finally dared to answer.

"Hello, this is Morningstar Preschool. Is this Lily Lynd's father? Lily is still at school. Her mother hasn't come to pick her up, and we can't reach her phone. Could you come by?"

Colin was certain Hayden had heard every word clearly.

The preschool required two emergency contact numbers from the parents. One was Zoe's, and for the other, Hayden had instructed them to leave Colin's number.

Hayden almost never showed up for these things; if absolutely necessary, Colin handled it.

Of course, there hadn't been any reason for Colin to step in over the past five years. Zoe had always taken excellent care of Lily.

"Mr. Thorne, should we go pick up the little miss first, or...?"

Colin covered the receiver, asking cautiously.

Hayden's face was devoid of expression as he spoke indifferently.

"I don't have time. Call Zoe. Keep calling until she picks up."
