I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 162

Nadia refused to let go.

"I don't... Asher, I'm not a child anymore."

As soon as the words left her mouth, she pressed her lips forward.

Asher turned his head, and her lips brushed against his throat.

His body went as hard as stone. He stood frozen for a long time before he finally dared to look down at the incredibly drunk woman clinging to him.

It was the first time he had ever looked at her this seriously.

It was true. Nadia had grown up a long time ago. She was in her twenties now, no longer the little girl he used to look after.

Frowning, he patted her cheek gently.

"Did you get involved with some jerk again and break up?"

His little girl had grown up, and he knew he shouldn't keep her tied to his side.

He ought to let go and let her date freely, instead of warning every guy she saw to stay away from her.

He just hadn't expected that roughing up that kid would make her this miserable.

She had almost hurt herself just now. The floor in the kitchen was covered in terrifying shards of glass.

If she had actually cut herself, he would have regretted it for the rest of his life.

Nadia seemed to sober up just a fraction.

She had practically thrown herself into his arms, and all he could think was that she was dealing with a breakup.

Clearly, she was just flattering herself.

Scoffing, she muttered under her breath.

"If you really like him that much, I'll go apologize to him."

An inexplicable tightness gripped Asher's chest.

She was a highly educated, rational lawyer.

He genuinely felt a guy like that wasn't right for her.

"Apologize?"

Nadia was getting more and more confused.

It felt like they were having two completely different conversations.

"Yeah. But I still don't think he's good for you. I'll cover the medical bills, but if you insist on being with him, I won't stop you."

His expression grew colder by the second.

Nadia, on the other hand, was becoming rapidly more lucid.

"Asher, did you beat up Stuart Sanders?"

Ten cups of black coffee couldn't match the effect of that single sentence.
