“The atmosphere was handled perfectly,” Nadia Fox's voice crackled through the phone. “I just wonder if Hayden Thorne realizes he's become the late-night fantasy for thousands of women. I have to admit, the way you handled those scenes was incredibly subtle. You didn't show the most explicit parts, but nothing was left to the imagination. The heavy symbolism you used makes the mind wander even more. It’s far more seductive than just drawing it outright.”
Zoe Lynd’s knees nearly buckled. Her teeth chattered as she spoke. “Are you telling me that the comic I drew for you... got published?”
“Yeah,” Nadia replied, confused. “Wasn't that your doing?”
Zoe immediately hung up and scrambled to call Cherry. Her voice trembled as the line connected.
“When I told you to take care of those comic drafts, what exactly did you do with them?” Please, she prayed silently. Please don't let it be what I think it is.
Cherry sounded even more thrilled than Nadia. “Ms. Lynd, I never expected the market response to be this explosive! It's a shame it ended after just ten volumes—it feels way too fast. The publisher was flooded with comments demanding bonus chapters as soon as the official release hit the shelves. They want to commission a sequel. Do you have time to draw some extras? It’s a massive success! Ms. Lynd—”
Cherry’s voice faded out, replaced by dead silence. “Ms. Lynd?” she asked, wondering if her phone had dropped the call.
Zoe felt like the sky had just crashed down on her shoulders. She grit her teeth, forcing the words out through a tight jaw. “Your way of 'taking care' of them was getting them published?”
Cherry sounded bewildered. “Well, yeah. Today was supposed to be the book signing, but you said you were too busy to attend, so I declined the organizers. But the artwork will still be displayed at the booth they set up. There's even going to be a massive fan club gathering...”
Zoe’s vision swam. “A fan club gathering?” Right next to the Easton Group headquarters?
“Exactly. This series is the dark horse of the publishing season. They're projecting sales of ten million copies. On top of the three million dollar advance they already gave you, there will be massive royalties. It definitely won't be less than eight figures. Ms. Lynd, should we really consider a sequel or some spin-offs?”
