I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 20

"Mrs. Gable, see Dr. Muir out."

Hayden finally stood up. Zoe watched Mrs. Gable escort Quentin to the door, realizing no one had told her what she was supposed to do next.

She stood awkwardly in the middle of the living room, feeling entirely out of place.

Hayden's heavy footsteps headed toward the stairs. Zoe didn't know if she should follow him or wait for further instructions.

Right now, it felt like any move she made would be a mistake.

"It's late. We'll deal with this tomorrow."

He tossed the order out like a royal pardon. Zoe stared at his retreating back, a little dazed. After a long moment, she mentally cursed her own cowardice.

What was she so afraid of? It wasn't like Hayden was actually going to eat her alive.

They were both human beings, and it wasn't like she had done anything wrong.

He was the one with the problem. He was her legal husband, yet he constantly paraded around acting like she wasn't his wife at all, but rather some business associate roped into a mandatory partnership.

Zoe thought about that absurd prenup. Looking at the firmly shut door of his bedroom, she quickly scrapped the idea of knocking.

Since he was already turning in for the night, she definitely wasn't going to poke the bear.

Whatever was in that prenup, she was better off not knowing. It was all pure trash anyway.

She absolutely refused to believe she had willingly signed away her rights like that.

Today, Hayden had dragged a doctor in at midnight just to see if she was faking her memory loss. If she pissed him off tomorrow, he'd probably have someone saw her skull open.

She patted her own head affectionately; she was quite attached to it.

Standing outside Hayden's door, Zoe suddenly felt a phantom, icy breeze brush against her neck. Shivering, she scurried into the guest bedroom next door and slammed the door shut.

The brief recap of his past played through his mind. Yet, thinking back on it now, Sienna's face seemed surprisingly blurred in his memory.

Even though, thanks to Holden, he saw her almost every single day.

He reined in his chaotic thoughts, his gaze unintentionally drifting back to the thick stack of the prenuptial agreement on the bed.

Hayden's eyes darkened. After a long moment, he walked over, snatched the documents off the mattress, and locked them directly in his desk drawer.

Given Zoe's current, volatile state, whether her amnesia was real or fake, showing her this contract would be completely pointless.

Hayden's time was incredibly valuable. He had zero intention of wasting a single second on useless trivialities.

Especially not onβ€”

Zoe.
