I Forgot I Ever Loved You (Zoe and Hayden) novel Chapter 381

Zoe frowned, wondering who on earth she could possibly know in this circle.

Judging by Timothy's expression, he meant someone everyone at the table was acquainted with.

She couldn't help but wonder if she had mingled with government officials before her memory loss.

Aside from Timothy, everyone was left guessing.

A moment later, Hayden Thorne and Ethan Montgomery strolled through the entrance of the dining hall.

Ethan looked visibly shocked to see Zoe sitting at the same table as Mr. Shaw and Director Yates.

Seeing Garrett right beside her made him think the whole situation was entirely absurd.

Given the high-security nature of this place, Garrett couldn't have just brought her in casually. He must have fabricated some elaborate excuse to trick Timothy into treating her like an honored guest.

A teasing glint flashed in Ethan's eyes as he blurted out out of habit, 'Mrs. Thorne, what are you doing here?'

That title completely stunned the table. Zoe remained unfazed, Garrett looked thoughtful, but Timothy and Mr. Shaw were downright floored.

Mr. Shaw gasped. 'You know Ms. Lynd's husband, Mr. Montgomery? I suppose she really is married then. It wasn't a joke.'

Seeing a woman raising a child while only associating with her close friend's family, he had blindly assumed she was a divorced single mother.

He certainly hadn't expected Ethan to be acquainted with her spouse.

Feeling the piercing stares from both Timothy and Mr. Shaw, Ethan suddenly realized he had said the wrong thing.

But the damage was already done.

The worst part was that Hayden had never publicly acknowledged Zoe's status. Ethan had just stepped on a massive landmine.

Ethan instinctively shot a panicked glance at Hayden, making the situation even more painfully obvious.

Hayden offered no explanation. He calmly greeted Mr. Shaw and Timothy, acting as if Ethan's slip of the tongue had absolutely nothing to do with him.

However, he cast a deeply calculating look at Zoe, curious to see how she would handle the mess.

To Zoe, that gaze felt like a blatant threat.

It was as if he were warning her not to forget their agreement: their marriage was strictly a secret.

Timothy astutely sensed that Hayden was watching Zoe, but when he looked closer, Hayden appeared entirely indifferent to her existence.

Ethan was scrambling his brain for a plausible excuse to backtrack.
