Zoe frowned. Why didn't the daughter she shared with Hayden take his last name? Why was she a Lynd?
Time was running short, leaving no room to dwell on it. The family chauffeur had already pulled the luxury SUV up to the entrance.-
Zoe sat in the backseat with Lily, the tiny girl practically vibrating with energy.
"Bye, Mommy! Mwah!"
Once they reached the preschool, Lily blew her a flying kiss and happily followed her teacher inside.
Zoe was still staring blankly at the doors when the driver pulled away.
By the time she snapped out of it, she realized she was stranded on the curb.
She had just pulled out her phone to call the driver back when an incoming call flashed on the screen.
The caller ID read [Mr. White].
Zoe hesitantly answered. A muffled, furious roar erupted from the speaker.
"Ms. Lynd, where the hell are you?! The morning meeting is about to start, and Mr. Thorne is already in the conference room. This is ridiculous. I still haven't seen you!"
Zoe was stunned.
Was this guy talking to her? She had a job?
And she was a secretary.
But God, where did she even work?
Zoe waited for the man to finish screaming before jumping in to speak.
"I was dropping my daughter off at school. Actually, Mr. White, I'm taking the bus today. Could you tell me which stop the office is at?"
There was a beat of stunned silence on the other end, followed by a mocking scoff.
"Take the crosstown bus, get off at Easton Group."
After giving the directions, Mr. White added a petty, sarcastic jab.
"I guess our dear Ms. Lynd doesn't normally take the bus to work. It must be nice living the high life."
Seeing Hayden up close made her ears ring.
What a terrible stroke of luck. Not only was she secretly married to him, but she was also working as his secretary.
And judging by how everyone treated her, no one in the office knew she was his wife.
"Let's begin."
Hayden stared straight ahead, his handsome face an emotionless mask, completely ignoring her presence.
The massive conference room was dead silent, amplifying the sheer authority in his voice.
"Meeting agenda."
The low, commanding tone sent a shiver down her spine. She stole a quick glance at him. He was just as untouchable and arrogant as always. He didn't look at anyone, especially not her.
If she had known he was the CEO, she never would have showed up.
"Ms. Lyndβthe CEO is talking to you."
