"I'm Nadia. Look at me."
She shoved him hard, but his arms only banded tighter around her, crushing her against his chest until she could barely breathe.
"I want you."
Before she could say another word, Asher captured her lips, crushing her jealousy under the sheer, bruising force of his kiss.
The contact sent a violent shockwave through Nadia.
This was her first kiss.
The moment she had dreamed of saving for Asher was being stolen because he thought she was Yasmine.
Nadia fought wildly against his grip, but the more she struggled, the more predatory he became. It was the first time she realized that a man as refined and courteous as Asher could be so terrifyingly dominant when consumed by desire.
In that moment, her envy toward Yasmine peaked into something entirely suffocating.
"Asher, you jerk, let go—"
Tears of absolute misery spilled down her cheeks. She refused to be a stand-in for anyone. Yes, she had feelings for him, but she refused to be mistaken for Yasmine.
Hearing her finally scream his name seemed to snap whatever restraint he had left. Asher practically threw her back against the cushions, his control completely shattering.
Outside, the shadows of the trees swayed in the courtyard. The moonlight spilled through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating the two tangled silhouettes on the sofa.
Nadia finally gave herself over to the night, tears still clinging to her lashes. Overwhelmed by his relentless, consuming demands, she eventually collapsed in utter exhaustion and drifted into a heavy sleep.
When Asher woke the next morning and finally saw the woman beneath him, his pupils contracted sharply.
He gently brushed his fingers across Nadia's luminous skin, a tidal wave of regret crashing over him.
After years of holding back, he had completely lost control. The precious girl he had sworn to protect had been claimed in his moment of reckless abandon.
Nadia stirred in the morning light, realizing she had already been carried to the bed.
She pushed herself up slowly, letting her dark hair cascade over her bare shoulders. The gray sheets pooled at her waist, doing little to hide the striking red marks blooming across her skin.
Asher stood before her, fully dressed and impeccably groomed, his gaze somber as he looked down at her.
For a moment, neither knew what to say.
He had spent the entire night drowning in regret after sobering up. But the damage was done, and there was no taking it back.
Nadia's eyes were rimmed red, and the way she looked at him was laced with undeniable resentment.
"Why?"
