Sienna Winters found herself completely ignored. Hayden Thorne stood at the center of the elite circle, showing a rare trace of deference only to Commissioner Jasper Sterling. The rest of the men treated Hayden with an indescribable apprehension, nodding along like subordinates rather than equals.
Slipping away, she leaned close to Hayden and whispered, "Hayden, I'm going to mingle over there."
Hayden either didn't hear her or simply ignored her. Left standing there, Sienna flushed with embarrassment.
Her current net worth meant she didn't have to tolerate being treated like a ghost.
"Commissioner Sterling, please excuse me. I need to greet my other guests."
She was furious. Jasper, whose conversation had just been interrupted, remained expressionless save for a slight frown. He didn't even spare her a glance. Tristan Sommer smoothly stepped in, blocking Sienna's line of sight to prevent her from saying something that might truly offend the commissioner.
Timothy Yates, however, cast a questioning look her way.
Anyone with an ounce of sense would have kept their distance. Who did Sienna think she was to throw a tantrum in front of a political heavyweight like Jasper?
Her words might have seemed simple, but dismissing them to greet 'other guests' was a blatant insult.
Whatever appreciation Jasper previously had for her vanished instantly, replaced by sheer displeasure at her disrespect.
Oblivious to the damage she had just done, Sienna walked away. Only then did Hayden speak up. "Commissioner, Sienna didn't mean it like that. Please forgive her."
Jasper's expression softened into a polite, dismissive smile.
"Ah, so this Mrs. Thorne isn't the Mrs. Thorne I've heard so much about. Hayden, I absolutely must meet your actual wife. Zoe Lynd, correct?"
Hayden nodded. "Yes, Zoe."
Jasper took a sip of water. "Not many people can earn Timothy's praise. I'm intrigued. Set up a time for us to have dinner. As for your sister-in-law, I'd suggest keeping her out of sight from now on."
Whispering something to Tristan, Jasper offered a courteous nod. "I have some city matters to attend to. Enjoy your evening."
Tristan followed closely behind him, while Timothy and Sebastian Shaw escorted them out. Hayden stayed behind, waiting until Jasper was completely gone before heading back toward Grandmother Genevieve to find Sienna.
The sting of being ignored had ruined Sienna's mood for socializing. She couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge the guests greeting her.
Hayden took a seat beside her, easily reading her foul temper.
"Commissioner Sterling isn't just an ordinary official."
Sienna was practically suffocating on her own rage. As a corporate titan pulling in billions of dollars, why should she let a man like Jasper look down on her?
"He puts his pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else. What makes him so special?"
