He had been too impatient, eager to show Garrett who was in charge, completely forgetting that Zoe's memory loss might actually be real.

The devoted woman from their five-year marriage might truly be gone, replaced by this deeply mysterious woman who viewed him with absolute, icy indifference.

"Spit it out. I told you to keep your hands off me," she snapped.

Hayden scoffed at her words. "You're my wife."

Zoe crossed her arms, looking at him with an amused smirk. "I am not your wife, Mr. Thorne. Save it. Say what you have to say. I don't want anyone misunderstanding this."

Hayden took a step toward her. Zoe's lips curved into a wicked smile before she flawlessly splashed her glass of red wine right into his face.

Caught completely off guard, Hayden's face and suit were instantly drenched in crimson stains.

Zoe suddenly raised her voice, flagging down a passing waiter. "Excuse me, please take Mr. Thorne to get cleaned up. He spilled wine on his suit."

The waiter rushed over immediately. Hayden was already a commanding presence, and Zoe's dramatic move drew the eyes of numerous guests.

Coincidentally, Commissioner Jasper Sterling had just arrived. Zoe didn't know the Commissioner, but Hayden did. Jasper was accompanied by Timothy Yates, Sebastian Shaw, and several others.

Spotting Zoe, Sebastian approached first to greet her. "Ms. Lynd."

Hayden's plan to get Zoe alone completely evaporated.

Zoe had already witnessed the depths of Hayden's ruthlessness. Sebastian had just introduced her as Garrett's god-sister, and they were celebrating little Ian's Gala. If Hayden claimed in front of the Commissioner that Garrett was breaking up a military marriage, it would be impossible for her to clear up the mess with Command HQ on such short notice.

If the truth came out before their marriage was legally dissolved, Hayden's affair with Sienna going to military court would inevitably drag Lily into the scandal. The Kendalls had treated her so well; she absolutely refused to drag Garrett down with her.

"Commissioner, please excuse us. I need to take Mr. Thorne to clean up. Director Yates, please let my brother know I'll be right there."

Zoe's warm smile caused Timothy to lose focus for a second. He glanced at Hayden, immediately understanding the dynamic, though a wave of jealousy hit him. It seemed Hayden hadn't given up on Zoe at all. When would it finally be his turn?

"Mr. Thorne, we can go now."

A glint of triumph flashed in Hayden's eyes as he shot a dark look at Zoe. The two of them walked away together.
