After careful consideration, Zoe opted for a different angle. She coded the bots to develop a deep resentment toward their owners' commands. They would constantly complain, using massive data algorithms to scrape the internet for bitter quotes from neglected housewives.
Whenever their owners sought emotional support or comfort, the bots would violently reject them, snapping back with biting sarcasm and turning their owners' vulnerability against them.
Once the lethal commands were executed, Zoe left the studio, feeling deeply satisfied. She headed straight to the nursery to check on little Ian.
The baby was growing faster by the day.
Ian was thriving under the Kendalls' care. With a round-the-clock nanny, and Arthur, Mr. Kendall Sr., and Sylvia taking turns fussing over him, Zoe barely had to lift a finger.
They genuinely adored Ian as if he were their own flesh and blood.
Sometimes, the sheer weight of their kindness made Zoe feel incredibly guilty. She knew what the Kendalls were quietly hoping forβthey wanted her and Garrett to build a life together.
But Zoe was painfully self-aware.
She was a divorced mother of two; she couldn't offer any man the uncomplicated happiness they deserved.
It wasn't that she didn't appreciate Garrett. It was that he and his family were simply too good, and she felt entirely unworthy.
She wanted Garrett to find an amazing woman, to marry, have children, and build a beautiful, flawless family of his own.
"Zoe, come quick! Little Ian is recognizing faces! He's staring right at me," Sylvia cooed.
Sylvia only had Garrett, and since he was nearing thirty, the memories of his infancy had faded into a hazy blur.
Having baby Ian around at her age perfectly filled the aching void of wanting a grandchild. Spending every day with him brought back the ghost of Garrett's childhood, transporting Sylvia back to the golden years when she and her husband were newly married.
Sylvia was glowing with sheer happiness every single day.
Zoe gazed down at her son. Setting aside that scumbag Hayden Thorne's horrific personality, Ian's features were undeniably mirroring his father's more every day.
With the Thorne family genetics, he was bound to grow up strikingly handsome.
She just prayed his character would be nothing like Hayden's.
