Hayden stared intensely at the bold woman sitting across from him. Zoe even casually lifted one foot out of her heel, lightly rubbing her aching arch.

"Explain," Hayden demanded, his voice dropping an octave, his dark eyes remaining fixed on her stunning legs.

He had seen those legs for five years—why did they look so wildly alluring today?

Zoe finished rubbing her foot and looked at him.

"Explain what?"

She genuinely had no idea what he was talking about.

"You showed up to an executive meeting without the agenda. Don't you think you owe me an explanation for that?"

Zoe had walked in here with the sole intention of quitting.

Why would she bother explaining anything?

"Not really. I don't remember anyway."

Hayden sat rigidly, his fingers freezing mid-tap on the mahogany desk.

Did he hear that right?

Zoe was actually talking back to him.

She stood up right in front of him, tugging down the hem of her wrinkled skirt.

Who on earth filled her closet with these outrageously sexy office clothes?

The skirt was so short that if she squatted, she would expose her underwear.

"Oh, right," Zoe chirped. "You said I'm your wife, right? Well, I'm resigning. I quit. Since I own half of all this anyway, I might as well just stay home and play the good housewife. Sounds perfect. Anyway, I'm out of here."

Zoe didn't give Hayden a chance to respond.

In her mind, there was no need.

Whether he agreed or not, she was quitting.

Who would willingly work with a man who had a face like a thundercloud all day? Just looking at him made her feel suffocated.

The next step, after resigning, was figuring out how to end this ridiculous marriage.

She had no clue how she ended up married to him in the first place.

Let alone how they had a daughter.

She needed to take Lily for a DNA test. If the child was really hers, she planned to take her and leave.
