Hunter's protectiveness over Zoe triggered alarm bells in Zoey's mind.
Did Hunter still have lingering feelings for Zoe?
Sylvia muttered a curse under her breath, glaring at Zoe.
Zoe was never going to let Lily apologize to Holden.
She lowered her lashes, hiding the intense rage simmering in her eyes.
When she looked at her daughter, her gaze softened completely.
She gently coaxed her.
"Baby, Mommy is taking you home."
There was absolutely no reason to stay in this toxic place a second longer.
"Grandmother Thorne, I'm sorry for ruining the mood today. I'm taking Lily home. I'll visit you another time."
As her husband, Hayden hadn't stood up for them when they were being bullied; instead, he was the first to stab them in the back.
What was the point of having a husband like him?
If Zoe looked at him for even one more second, she was going to scream every insult she knew in his face.
"Zoe—"
Hayden ground out her name through clenched teeth.
He hadn't given her permission to leave. How dared she defy him?
Zoe walked right past Hayden, refusing to even acknowledge his presence.
Grandmother Thorne sighed softly.
"Alright, I'll have someone drive you."
Hunter tried to follow her, but a delicate hand wrapped tightly around his arm.
Bathed in the glow of the setting sun, Zoe held Lily's hand and walked out of the Thorne Estate with her head held high.
Hayden stood rigid, his cold expression masking the violent storm brewing inside him as his fists clenched tightly at his sides.
This woman was completely out of control.
Where had she gotten all this nerve lately?
His dark, predatory gaze swept over Hunter.
He scoffed internally.
He had never cared about Zoe before, but suddenly, he couldn't stop wondering.
Where exactly had she taken Lily?
Zoe hadn't let Grandmother Thorne's driver take them to Blackwood Manor.
Instead, she took Lily to a cozy fusion restaurant.
Tears were still clinging to Lily's cheeks, and Zoe wiped them away with a heartbroken expression.
"Whatever you want to eat, Mommy will get it for you. Just the two of us, okay?"
Lily nodded.
Mommy had changed so much. She wasn't siding with Holden like Daddy did anymore.
"Mommy, do you love me now because I'm being a good girl?"
Lily asked, her words muffled through a mouthful of delicious food Zoe had ordered for her.
Zoe stroked her little head.
"You are my daughter. No matter what, Mommy will always love you."
Lily stopped chewing and reached up with a chubby hand to wipe her eyes.
