Garrett felt his mother's reminder was entirely correct.
Faced with Hayden, the boy's biological father, no one had the right to question him. Whatever actions or decisions Hayden made, as long as Zoe had no objections, no one could stop him.
Zoe finally broke her indifferent facade. She looked at Hayden.
"About Ian..."
She had agreed to call the police. Julie's call had come through, yet it also felt like it hadn't.
If Hayden was leaving, he definitely had a plan in mind.
The Kendall family could only utilize legitimate, above-board connections, but Hayden was different.
Everyone in the city knew he had deep ties in both the corporate world and the underground. Even the most hardened figures had to give him a wide berth.
Zoe was burning with anxiety, but she didn't show it too overtly in front of everyone.
If she broke down, everyone else would suffer with her.
The incident had happened at the Kendall estate. Any negative emotion from her would only amplify Sylvia and Mr. Kendall Sr.'s severe guilt.
Julie was hired by Sylvia. Her misplaced trust in Julie's reliability had led to little Ian's kidnapping. In Julie's mind, Ian was the Kendalls' actual grandson; otherwise, she wouldn't have acted so decisively.
Hayden didn't use this opportunity to mock Zoe or threaten her. Instead, he met her gaze with gentle, reassuring eyes. "I'm here. Don't worry."
He dropped those words, and regardless of whether Zoe trusted him in that moment, she had no choice but to believe him.
Zoe had no way to leverage her own limited resources to save her son.
Hayden, ironically, had become the strongest beacon of hope for everyone present.
"Okay."
Zoe finally responded, and a rare pang of bitterness washed over Hayden.
Ever since Zoe regained her memories, she hadn't spoken a single genuine word to him. If it weren't for their son being kidnapped and her being completely out of options, she probably wouldn't have even looked him in the eye for the rest of her life.
Was Hayden the mastermind behind Ian's disappearance?
If that was true, he was an absolute monster.
He deserved to burn in hell.
"Zoe, even though Mr. Thorne left a terrible impression in your past memories, his actions over these past few days shouldn't be judged so harshly.
I know you've been unhappy and harbored doubts about him, but in such a desperate situation, there's no other choice but to trust your husband, your son's father.
Mr. Thorne can at least reach people and utilize methods that are completely off-limits to us.
Constantly assuming the worst about him and the situation isn't good for Ian. We have to stick together when facing difficulties. Don't you agree?"
Sylvia had lived long enough to read every expression and shifting glance on Zoe's face. As a wife and mother herself, she could guess what Zoe was thinking just from the occasional flash of resentment in her eyes.
She and Mr. Kendall Sr. hadn't always been as harmonious and loving as everyone saw them now. Everyone had misunderstandings in their youth; no marriage was without arguments, divergence, and moments of utter heartbreak.
