I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 132

She bit her lower lip.

"Miles, he didn't threaten me. This is entirely my own choice."

Miles's frown deepened. He found it hard to believe that a woman so determined to get a divorce would suddenly change her mind out of nowhere.

York looked at him and smirked. "Are you really trying to steal another man's wife, Miles?"

"Since you two aren't getting divorced," Miles accepted, choosing to respect Gillian's decision. "Then naturally, I won't force anything. Even if she were divorced, if she didn't want me, I wouldn't push her. Everyone has their own human rights and autonomy."

"Gilly is her own person first, before she is anyone's wife."

Those words made Gillian's heart flutter once again.

York frowned. Miles's underlying implication was clearly accusing him of being an oppressive, tyrannical dictator.

He was about to retort when his phone rang. It was Hailey, saying all the dishes had arrived in their room and asking where he was, warning that the food was getting cold.

He shot Gillian a look filled with intense warning—a glare that made it seem as if she were the one having an affair.

After York left.

Miles looked at Gillian with concern. "Are you truly staying with him willingly?"

"Yes." Gillian lowered her eyes, too ashamed to meet his gaze. She let out a self-deprecating laugh. "Do you think I'm pathetic and weak, too? Even after everything he's done to me, I still haven't ended this marriage."

"I don't think that at all," Miles said with absolute certainty, causing Gillian to look up in mild surprise.

The man spoke gently. "This is your choice, which means you must have your reasons. I would never judge someone without understanding what they're going through."

"I respect and understand the choice you've made. I certainly don't think you're pathetic or weak. On the contrary, I think you're an incredibly smart and strong woman."

"You make the right choices when it matters most. You have your reasons for not divorcing right now; you simply aren't ready to share them with me yet."

His voice was calm and soothing. "I'll wait. I'll wait for the day you're ready to tell me yourself."

Miles was wonderful—gentle, gentlemanly, and deeply perceptive. In her most painful moments, he was like a spring breeze, soothing the scars on her heart.
