"My wife is pregnant." York stared at the doctor. "Didn't you run a scan?"
The doctor spoke plainly. "We found absolutely no signs of pregnancy."
York froze. How was that possible?
"She was three months along." York's voice was laced with disbelief. "How could there be no signs?"
Had Gillian lied to him...?
"If you want absolute confirmation, we can draw some blood and check her HCG levels right now," the doctor offered.
Miles's cool, detached voice cut through the tension. "There's no need to check. Gillian was pregnant, yes, but she lost the baby a long time ago."
His words dropped like a depth charge.
York's expression darkened dangerously. His eyes locked onto Miles with a freezing glare. "Did you go with her to abort my child?"
"Does it matter if I did?" Miles met York's furious stare, his tone dripping with disdain. "You never loved her, and you certainly didn't want that baby. You flaunted your mistress and prioritized her child over your own wife's. She realized the truth and got rid of it. Isn't that a perfectly logical outcome?"
York's fists clenched so tightly his knuckles cracked. A suffocating pressure crushed his chest.
So, even before she announced the pregnancy online... the baby was already gone.
A terrifying aura of ice radiated from York, the veins on the back of his hands bulging violently.
He let out a sudden, dark laugh, his eyes swimming with a volatile mix of grief and hatred.
Fine!
Gillian, you're just fine!
Taking matters into your own hands again to abort my child!

When Gillian finally opened her eyes, all she saw was a sea of glaring white.
The sharp scent of antiseptic burned her nostrils, while a lingering, fiery ache clawed at her lungs.
