Gillian hit the mattress hard, wincing in pain.
She glared up at him, her voice trembling with fury. "What is wrong with you?! I need to know what happened to my father!"
York's eyes were bloodshot, the exhaustion of his overnight flight giving him a haggard, menacing aura. "Your father? Gillian, don't you have something you want to tell me?"
His accusation sent a chilling wave of disappointment through her.
When she was moments from death, he had completely ignored her desperate calls for help.
Now, she was barely awake, and he was barking at her with that venomous tone.
Since the moment he walked in, he hadn't asked a single question about her condition!
Gillian sneered. "What do you want to hear? Do you want to hear how I barely survived burning alive? Or how you ignored my calls while I was trapped in a fire?!"
"You were busy with your lover! Why the hell did you come back?"
"Get out of my way! I'm going to see my father!"
Gillian shoved him with all her remaining strength.
York easily clamped his hand around her wrist, his brow furrowing as he snapped, "I went abroad for business."
Gillian didn't believe a single word. She yanked her arm desperately, but his iron grip held firm. "So what? Who cares? Do whatever you want, just let me go!"
A terrible sense of dread washed over her. Her left eyelid had been twitching uncontrollably since she woke up, a haunting premonition that something vital had been permanently taken from her.
The firefighter had confirmed her mother was safe, leaving only her father's fate hanging in the balance.
And yet, York was intentionally blocking her path.
She couldn't stand the sight of him right now.
Realizing she couldn't break free, Gillian's fury peaked, and she swung her free hand to slap him. York caught it mid-air, a move that completely shattered his fragile facade of composure.
His face turned thunderous. He stared at her with a volatile, violent fury. "You actually dared to abort the baby!"
Gillian froze for a split second.
Staring into the raging inferno of his eyes, her heart pounded against her ribs.
The truth always comes out. She knew York would find out eventually.
And it was better this way. She was exhausted from hiding it.
