I Loved You in the Dark Until Someone Loved Me in the Light novel Chapter 7

The piercing, icy voice drifted down from above her. Gillian looked up, meeting his dark, freezing gaze.

It was a look she knew all too well; York only ever looked at her like that, and right now, it was laced with impatience.

He always prioritized Hailey's feelings above everything else.

Gillian took a deep breath, suppressing the heavy emotions in her chest, and forced a smile. "Since when do mistresses have the right to get jealous these days?"

York frowned, clearly triggered by the word 'mistress'. "Gillian, she's a good girl. Don't insult her."

Gillian's fingers curled slightly, ready to fire back.

"Why are you all standing in the doorway?"

Director Thomas from HR walked over holding a briefcase, interrupting them.

Director Thomas smiled and said, "Everyone go inside. I have an announcement to make."

As soon as they entered the office, Director Thomas cut straight to the chase.

"I'm sure everyone has heard the news by now. The roster for our hospital's advanced fellowship program is out, and we have a newcomer. Please do your best to show her the ropes." Director Thomas motioned to Hailey. "Dr. Sinclair, please introduce yourself to everyone."

Hailey was young and very bashful, her voice timid. "My name is Hailey Sinclair. I'm a senior at Metropolis Medical College. I hope we can all get along."

The moment the introduction finished, the doctors in the office were instantly in an uproar.

The fellowship program was a rare opportunity that led to senior promotions and academic credits. It required recommendations from the hospital and employers, and a minimum of three to five years of clinical experience.

Gillian shuddered. The hospital did indeed have this policy.

In that instant, she felt a chill seep into her very bones. Her husband dropped millions for his mistress's birthday, and now he had thrown tens of millions of dollars just to secure her a fellowship spot at the hospital.

Meanwhile, as his lawful wife of five years, whether he had even spent thirty thousand dollars on her was highly questionable.

She didn't dare calculate it, didn't dare keep track. By comparison, her five years were an absolute joke, and the bitterness in her heart spread like dense, suffocating vines.

Hailey bit her lip, looking up at York pitifully with eyes full of gratitude. Even a woman would feel sorry for her, let alone a man.

With that statement, the room fell silent. When someone had the money and power to buy a resume, who could compete?

York wrapped his arm around Hailey's shoulder, fully embracing the role of the protective boyfriend. "Today is Hailey's first day. She's new here, so please take good care of her. Tonight after work, I'll treat all colleagues to dinner at Cloudview Manor. I'll arrange transportation for everyone."
