Chapter 102 Just One Call
His words rolled off me like water.

I had no interest in listening to someone lecture me about survival when he had just tried to undermine my work through back channels.
More importantly…
Why had he suddenly become so interested in me again?
Ever since Harold and I ended our betrothal, it felt as though every man who should have stayed away had suddenly remembered I existed.
Annoying.
If Kael intended to use this excuse to worm his way back into my life, he was dreaming.
I smiled politely. “Don’t worry. They already found the person who spread the rumor. She has been dismissed. If you’ll excuse me, I have to head home. I’m tired.”
Without waiting for another word, I picked up my handbag and walked straight past him.
His expression stiffened for only a second before he followed me out, but by the time he reached the elevator lobby, I was already downstairs.
The cool evening breeze brushed against my face as I stepped out of F-Tech’s headquarters.
I had only taken a few steps toward the parking area when I froze.
A familiar black SUV sat quietly beneath the streetlamp.
My mood instantly worsened.
Harold.
I pretended not to notice the vehicle and continued walking.
The driver’s door opened. Harold climbed out before I could reach my car.
He crossed the distance between us in long strides and stopped directly in my path. I instinctively took two steps backward before he could get close enough to touch me.
“Harold.” My voice was colder than the evening air. “Stay away from me.”
His brows knitted together. “Flourish. Why did you cause trouble for Phina and get her scolded by Damian? I thought you said you were done with us. So why are you targeting her now?”
For a brief second, I simply stared at him. Then I laughed. Because I genuinely couldn’t believe

what I had just heard. “What exactly did I do to target her? If you’re determined to bite someone, perhaps you should visit a healer first and have your head examined.”

His face flushed instantly. “I know you don’t like Selene,” he snapped, “but was it really necessary to force her and Aunt Lydia out of their home? Maybe Selene went too far, but she’s the one who spread the rumors. Phina only got scolded because of her. You couldn’t even apologize?”
The pieces slid together so neatly that I almost admired the effort. So that was it.
Selene started the fire. Phina quietly poured oil over it.
And now Harold expected me to apologize because the flames had burned the wrong people. I let out a soft, mocking laugh.
“Apologize? Even if they knelt in front of me and begged, I might not forgive them. And you’re asking me to apologize?”
I met his gaze without the slightest hesitation. “Harold. If you can’t tell right from wrong, then do yourself a favor and stop talking. Otherwise, you’re only advertising how little common sense you actually have.”
For a moment, neither of us spoke. I looked at the man standing in front of me and couldn’t understand myself.
How…
How had I ever loved someone like this?
The Harold I used to admire had disappeared long ago.
Or perhaps… he had never existed.
I took another step around him. “Oh, one more thing. If you keep showing up in front of me like this…”
A faint smile tugged at my lips. “…I’ll go straight to your brother and complain. I’m sure Alpha Damian will be more than happy to chew you out along with everyone else.”
His expression froze. I didn’t wait to enjoy it.
I simply walked away.
Only after I settled into the driver’s seat did I finally allow myself to relax.
I fastened my seatbelt slowly before resting both hands on the steering wheel.

“So…” I murmured quietly. “Damian really was that angry. He actually scolded Phina because of me.”
For some reason, the realization warmed something inside my chest.
I picked up my phone. After hesitating for several seconds, I finally typed a message.
‘Thank you for today.’
Barely three seconds passed before my phone vibrated.
