Chapter 106 Fragrance

Lady Flourish’s POV

But there had been a time when I spent six years chasing someone who never truly looked at

If Grandma hadn’t pushed me toward independence, and if Damian hadn’t appeared, would I still be that same foolish woman?

“Grass is always greener,” I murmured.

“Exactly,” Devina’s cheerful voice returned immediately. “Now stop philosophizing and meet me at Moon Petals Boutique. I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”

Moon Petals was one of the largest fragrance boutiques in Stonehedge. The moment I stepped inside, the rich blend of floral, woody, and citrus notes wrapped around me like an invisible blanket, and Devina spotted me almost immediately.

“Flourish! Over here!” she waved enthusiastically from the premium collection.

I walked over, smiling. “Find anything?”

She pouted dramatically. “Nothing.” Turning toward one of the attendants, she asked, “Is this your full release?”

The young wolf bowed politely. “Yes, Lady Devina. Another shipment arrives tomorrow. If you’d like, we can send the newest collection directly to Stonehedge Villa.”

Devina held one of the boutique’s highest membership cards, meaning every new fragrance arrived at her residence before it officially reached the shelves.

She shook her head, replying, “That would be wonderful, actually. I’ll already be out of town tomorrow.” The attendant nodded respectfully before excusing herself, and Devina linked her arm with mine. “What about you? Anything catching your eye?”

I glanced across the rows of crystal bottles. Truthfully, it had been a long time since I bought anything purely because I liked it.

Ever since taking over Grandma’s shares, almost every purchase had been practical for work, business, and meetings.

Then, I remembered Saturday’s inter-pack banquet. Damian had told me to wear whatever I wanted, so perhaps I should at least choose a fragrance.

“I’ll have a look,” I said.

We wandered through several displays until one bottle eventually caught my attention. Its glass was shaped like a crescent moon, simple yet elegant.

I reached toward it, only to notice movement outside the display window, causing my fingers to

pause.

It was Harold and Phina.

For a brief second, I considered pretending I hadn’t seen them. I turned slightly, intending to walk toward another display, but it was too late; Phina had already noticed us. She entered the boutique with a bright smile that never reached her eyes.

“What a coincidence,” her voice remained as gentle and sweet as ever. “I didn’t expect to meet both of you here.”

Harold stayed silent, his eyes settling on me immediately without looking away even once.

them the kind of polite smile reserved for strangers. “It certainly is a coincidence.”

Fina stepped closer, asking, “Are you shopping too?”

“I wasn’t aware perfume required an invitation,” Devina replied, causing the smile on Phina’s lips to stiffen almost imperceptibly.

Before she could respond, her attention shifted toward the bottle still resting in my hand.

“Oh…” her eyes brightened as she turned toward Harold. “This fragrance looks beautiful. I really like it.”

I looked down at the perfume for another second before smiling faintly. “You can have it.”

Both of them seemed surprised by my words.

“I don’t really want it anymore,” I said, placing the bottle back onto the display.

Meeting Phina’s gaze calmly, I added, “Besides, some people always reach toward whatever is already in someone else’s hands. Only after getting it do they realize it never suited them in the first place.”

Silence settled between us, and Phina’s expression almost cracked before she recovered, lowering her eyes with practiced innocence. “I don’t understand what you’re trying to imply.”

“Nothing,” I shrugged lightly. “I simply lost interest.”

Harold frowned slightly, something unreadable flickering inside his eyes as Phina wrapped her fingers around his arm.

“Harold,” she smiled sweetly, “I really like this one.”

He looked from me toward the perfume, and finally, he nodded. “If you like it, buy it.”

The attendant quickly packaged it for them, and as they completed the purchase, Devina leaned closer and whispered, “I swear his eyes never left you.”

I simply smiled. “It has nothing to do with me anymore.”

She snorted. “I still think he’s blind.” Before I could answer, she suddenly gasped, “Flourish, you have to smell this!”

She grabbed my wrist excitedly and practically dragged me across the boutique, lifting another bottle from an upper display before spraying a small amount onto a testing strip.

The fragrance drifted toward me-fresh moon jasmine, white cedar, rain after midnight, and soft silver moss. I closed my eyes instinctively because it felt quiet, gentle, and elegant, like standing beneath a full moon with nowhere else to be.

Devina’s eyes sparkled. “This is you. This smells exactly like you.”

I couldn’t help smiling. “I admit, I like it.”

Devina turned to the worker immediately. “We’ll take this one.”

The attendant looked apologetic. “I’m terribly sorry, Lady Devina, but that fragrance isn’t available for purchase. It was custom commissioned and belongs to another client.”

Devina blinked, frowning in disappointment. “What do you mean? What a shame.”

I gently touched her arm. “It’s alright.”

She sighed, looking back at the display with obvious reluctance. “I honestly didn’t expect to find something so perfect in such a small boutique. If someone hadn’t reserved it already, I would’ve bought it for you immediately.”
