I Refuse To Be Your Luna (Flourish and Harold) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11 We Meet Again

Lady Flourish’s POV

Suddenly, I could hear my heartbeat in my ears.

Why was Damian standing in front of my company’s building?

I wanted to call out to him, but my brain scrambled. I couldn’t form any words.

He was dressed in a formal wear, his white shirt unbuttoned at the first two rows, with his strong forearms peeking through behind his rolled up sleeves. The shirt hugged his broad shoulders, all the way down to his narrow torso, and then his long legs.

His hair was tousled, like he had run his hands through it many times, and he had a lazy smirk on his face. And then he did the thing that caught me off guard the most.

He waved.

I caught myself before I could stare any longer.

“Lady Flourish, it’s good to have you back,” a male wolf spoke up in front of me, cutting off the moment. I snapped my head at him and recognized him immediately.

My manager, Beta Rhys.

He had been standing in for me for over the last few years, handling my company while I was busy chasing a bleak future with Harold.

Well, never again.

“Rhys, it’s my pleasure. How have you been?” I asked as he took my bag. We walked into the reception of the building and headed for the elevator.

I pushed Damian to the back of my mind. Whatever antics he wanted to pull today, I wasn’t in for it at all.

Around us, wolves recognized and bowed as I walked past, murmuring greetings and words of acknowledgement.

The power felt good.

“Well, the sales in the last week have been very good. We’ve had a major investment offer from a neighboring pack, and the Alpha is expected to meet with us today. I was especially happy that you came today solely because of this meeting,” he said, punching in the number for the top floor, where my office was.

I shot him a glance. “Can you not handle meetings in my absence anymore?” I teased.

He looked flustered, and defended himself immediately. “Oh no no Lady Flourish, you know I can. It’s just, this particular client is known as the Green Devil. He’s hard to please, and you’re the only one I know that would be capable of facing him.”

I thought about this carefully. “The Green Devil? The name is unfamiliar. But if you say so Rhys, I’ll meet him today.”

“Thank you, Lady Flourish.”

“I’m glad to see that you have been handling my company well. I have returned for good, and I will be spending a lot more time here,” I said, smiling softly.

“That’s good news. A lot of things require your attention sometimes. It’s not easy managing this entire building on your own.”

I nodded at him as the doors chimed open. He led me to my office, dropping a few files on my desk. “Just a little recap on all that has happened in your absence. I kept files just in case you decided to show up like you did today. The meeting with the Alpha is by noon, so I’ll have Cheryl send a reminder by 11:45.”

I appreciated his efficiency and dismissed him, settling into the feeling of my old office again.

Years of hard work, poured into this one moment. At least, all I lost while being with Harold was years. I hadn’t lost my spark.

After a few hours of burying myself into the files Rhys had dropped for me, my telecom buzzed with a call from Cheryl, my secretary.

“Lady Flourish, the meeting with Alpha Damian starts in 15 minutes.”

I froze.

What?

I grabbed the receiver and called out to it.

“Cheryl?”

“Yes Lady Flourish?”

“Who did you say the meeting was with again?”

She hesitated a bit before responding. “It’s with Alpha Damian of Stormbridge Pack, my Lady.”

My blood rushed in my ears.

“Is this some kind of cruel joke?” I blurted, half yelling into the receiver.

“Umm, no Lady Flourish. Is everything alright?” She asked shakily.

I pinched the space between my brows and glanced at the clock. 11:50am. 10 minutes.

“Yes yes, thank you Cheryl,” I said and hung up.

Everything was in fact not okay. I held my head on my hands as I tried to make sense of what the fuck was happening.

But somehow, the dots started to connect in my head.

Damian was disowned by Alpha Magnus six years ago, after refusing to get mated to the mate

he chose.

The rumors, or rather, the story Harold told me was that Damian went off and started a pack of his own with a few of his friends, and some rogues who were willing to join him.

He had grown his pack into multitudes of wolves, and soon, many wolves were leaving their territories to join his own because it was much more stable.

Stormbridge had always been in the news. Accomplishments, treaties, investments. But no one was able to point out that Damian was the Alpha, the one who built everything from scratch.

I couldn’t help but wonder, what happened to him in the last six years?

Why did they call him the Green Devil?

A knock on the door startled me out of my thoughts.

“Come in,”
