Chapter 199 Good Luck

Lady Flourish’s POV

The wolves outside remained bowed, their bodies completely still as the authority of my bloodline settled over the estate, but I could barely focus on them because Lucien’s words had left me with too many questions.

My mother’s warning was still in my mind, especially the line telling me not to trust the person who knelt first, and I could not ignore that Elias had been the first man to acknowledge me as Sovereign.

I looked from Elias to Lucien. “Everyone seems to know something about my mother except

me.”

My voice shook with frustration, and Damian immediately moved closer, his hand settling around mine as his wolf stayed alert to every movement around us.

His touch calmed me enough to keep my own wolf from reacting to the dozens of unfamiliar wolves outside.

Elias lowered his head. “Your mother wanted you to have a normal life.”

I gave a humorless laugh. “Normal?” I gestured toward the kneeling wolves. “Nothing about my life has been normal.”

Garret shifted weakly behind us, and the movement pulled my attention back to him.

“Flourish.”

I hurried toward him. “Don’t move.”

His face was pale, and the silver arrow was still embedded in his chest, but his eyes stayed clear enough to follow me. “I need you to listen.”

I crouched beside him. “I’m listening.”

His fingers closed weakly around mine. “Your mother made me promise I would never reveal the Voss bloodline unless you were ready.”

I swallowed. “Was I ever going to be ready?”

Garret looked at Damian. “He was part of the reason.”

Damian’s expression tightened. “Me?”

Garret nodded. “Your wolf bond was always going to awaken something in her.”

I stared at Damian, and he looked just as surprised as I felt. “You knew?”

“Not everything,” Garret said, coughing. I pressed my hand against his shoulder at once.

“Don’t force yourself.”

“I have to.” His eyes returned to mine. “Your mother believed you would need someone who would protect your choice instead of controlling your power.”

My throat tightened. “And you believe that’s Damian?”

He looked at Damian for several seconds. “Yes.”

Damian’s fingers tightened around mine. “I won’t control her.”

“I know,” Garret said faintly, and those two small words affected me more than I expected them

Damian lowered himself beside me. “You’re not facing this alone.”

“I know.”

He brushed his thumb over my knuckles. “And whatever that power becomes, we’ll learn it together.”

My wolf relaxed against his, and I leaned closer, resting my forehead briefly against him. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“You won’t have to find out.”

His quiet answer made my chest ache. A howl suddenly rose from outside, and every wolf on the lawn lifted its head at once.

I turned toward the window. “What happened?”

Lucien’s expression changed. “They’re waiting for your command.”

“I haven’t given them one.”

“That’s the problem,” he said, watching me closely. “They can hear your wolf even when you don’t speak.”

I stared out at them. “Then how do I stop them?”

“You don’t,” Lucien said grimly. “You learn to control yourself first.”

Before I could respond, one of the wolves stepped forward, an older male with gray fur around his muzzle. He shifted and dropped to one knee.

“Sovereign.”

I stiffened. “Stand up.”

He obeyed instantly, and my eyes widened. I hadn’t meant to command him at all.

Lucien watched me carefully. “You need to be careful.”

“I know.”

“No,” he said, shaking his head. “You don’t.” He looked toward Damian. “Neither does he.”

Damian stepped forward. “Explain.”

“Every command she gives can spread through the pack.”

My stomach dropped. “So if I tell one wolf to stop…”

“Every connected wolf could stop.”

Damian’s jaw hardened. “And if she tells them to attack?”

Lucien said nothing, and that silence answered the question well enough.

I looked down at my hands. “I don’t want this.”

Damian turned toward me. “Then we won’t use it.”

“What if I have to?”

“Then we’ll decide together.”

The sound of approaching vehicles interrupted us, and Rhys’s voice came through Damian’s phone. “Damian, we have a problem.”

“What?”

“Stonehedge vehicles just entered the eastern road.”

My body went cold. “Stonehedge?”

“Yes,” Rhys said, lowering his voice.

Damian’s wolf immediately grew restless. “How many?”

“Four vehicles.”

Lucien’s expression darkened. “They’re not here for Garret.”

“Then who are they here for?” I asked.

His eyes settled on me. “You.”

My wolf growled, and Damian stepped in front of me at once. “Nobody is taking her.”

“You don’t understand what this means,” Lucien said.

“What?”

“Someone inside Stonehedge knows exactly what she is.”

The words brought everything back at once, Nerissa, the executive fleet, the poisoning, and Ragnar.

Damian’s jaw tightened. “Ragnar.”

Lucien didn’t answer, and that silence was answer enough.

Damian reached for his phone. “Rhys, lock down the eastern entrance.”

“Already done.”

“And don’t let anyone inside.”
