Chapter 214 He Planned This

Apha Harold’s POV

I could barely hear the conversations around me because the warning from the wounded warrior still echoed inside my head, but I knew I could not leave the wedding hall without understanding what had just happened.

The eastern border had been attacked, an enemy had threatened Stonehedge before sunrise, and Damian had chosen that exact moment to announce that Flourish was his wife.

I turned toward him, studying his expression carefully, but he looked completely composed as he rested one hand against the back of Flourish’s chair.

His wolf was equally calm beneath his skin, and that bothered me more than anything, because no Alpha stayed that controlled unless he already understood the situation unfolding around him.

Alpha Magnus finally broke the silence. “Damian, you knew about this marriage before today?”

Damian’s eyes moved toward him, steady and unbothered. “I knew I was going to marry Flourish.”

Magnus’s jaw tightened. “You did not think your family deserved to know?”

“I thought you would eventually find out,” Damian said, his mouth curving slightly.

I felt my fingers curl against my palm. That answer was deliberate, and everyone in the room knew it. My wolf had been restless since Damian walked in with Flourish, but now it paced harder inside me, reacting to the unfamiliar pressure filling the hall.

I hated the feeling, because it reminded me of every moment I had allowed myself to believe Damian was simply helping Flourish, when he had clearly been moving pieces around us all along.

I looked toward Flourish. She sat quietly beside him, her fingers resting near the edge of the table, her shoulders tense. She looked beautiful even with the strain around her eyes, and seeing her beside Damian made something unpleasant tighten inside my chest.

I hated that reaction. I had already married Phina. I had chosen my path. So why did seeing Flourish beside another Alpha still make my wolf want to challenge him?

“Flourish,” Daciana said suddenly.

Flourish lifted her eyes. “Yes, Lady Daciana?”

Daciana’s smile was polite, but there was no warmth behind it. “I never imagined you would become Damian’s wife.”

Flourish’s fingers tightened slightly. “Neither did I.”

Damian glanced at her, and the tension in his expression softened immediately. That small reaction told me enough. He cared about her, more than that, he had probably cared about her long before any of us realized it.

Daciana noticed it too. “You have always been ambitious,” she said.

Damian’s eyes hardened. “Daciana.”

One word, but the warning in his voice made several wolves around the table lower their eyes.

Flourish reached beneath the table and touched his wrist. “Don’t.”

Damian looked at her hand, his expression changing immediately, and he covered her fingers with his own.

Something inside me twisted. That was when the pieces finally connected. The broken engagement. Damian encouraging Flourish to leave me. His sudden interest in Stonehedge’s affairs. The pressure he had placed on Magnus regarding Phina and my wedding.

The way every obstacle had somehow disappeared whenever he needed Flourish closer to him.

I stepped away from the table. “Uncle Damian.”

He looked at me. “Did you plan all of this?”

The hall went silent again.

Phina turned sharply toward me. “Harold.”

I ignored her.

Damian’s gaze didn’t waver. “What exactly do you think I planned?”

My wolf snarled quietly. “You knew Flourish would leave me.”

“I knew you were treating her badly.”

My face burned. “And you encouraged it.”

“I encouraged her to choose herself.”

The words struck harder than an insult. Damian leaned back slightly.

“You lost her long before I became her husband.”

I clenched my jaw. “You wanted her.”

“Yes.” His answer came without hesitation, and the room erupted into whispers around us. Flourish looked at him, her eyes widening slightly, but Damian never looked away from me.

“I wanted her,” he repeated. “And unlike you, I did not pretend otherwise.”

My wolf pushed hard against my control. For one terrible second I wanted to shift, wanted claws, wanted the authority of my Alpha blood running through my veins. But Magnus’s voice stopped me.

“Harold.”

I looked at him.

“This is your wedding day.”

His words reminded me of the ring on my finger. Phina was my wife. Flourish was Damian’s. The truth sat heavily inside me, and I turned away from the table.

Then the scent of blood reached my nose. Fresh blood. Every Alpha in the room reacted at

once.

Damian stood. “That isn’t from the wounded warrior.”

A second later, the doors burst open, and a Stonehedge scout stumbled inside, blood covering

his shirt.
