The alarm continued to howl through the estate, and every wolf in the hall reacted immediately.

I released Flourish’s hand only long enough to stand, but my wolf was already pushing against my control, demanding that I find out what had happened.

“Report,” I ordered.

A warrior rushed through the doors, breathing heavily. “Alpha Damian, the eastern wall has been breached.”

The room erupted, and I moved before anyone could stop me. “How many?”

“Unknown, Alpha, but the attackers are not ordinary rogues.”

That answer made me stop. “What do you mean?”

“They are organized, heavily trained, and they are using weapons designed to suppress werewolf healing.”

My jaw tightened. Someone had prepared for us. I looked toward Rhys. “Get the Dartwood warriors stationed near the northern road.”

He nodded and moved at once.

“Marwin, wake every elder.”

The old wolf bowed his head.

“Hailey, secure the civilians and move them into the inner compound.”

She turned without hesitation.

Alpha Magnus stepped toward me. “You are not going to the border alone.”

“I know.”

His eyes narrowed. “I am taking twenty warriors.”

“You are taking fifty.”

“Flourish.”

“I am not hiding while everyone else fights.”

I stepped closer and lowered my voice. “You were abducted tonight.”

“And I survived.”

“That does not mean I will risk you again.”

Her eyes softened for a second, but she didn’t back down. “Then keep me beside you.”

I stared at her, my wolf immediately responding to the words, and I hated how easily she could reach the part of me I kept guarded from everyone else.

“You are impossible.”

Despite everything happening around us, the corner of my mouth lifted slightly.

Then a sharp growl came from outside, not a human sound but a wolf’s warning, and every werewolf in the hall froze at once. I knew that growl. It belonged to one of our border sentries.

A second later, the doors burst open, and a warrior stumbled inside, covered in blood.

“Alpha,” he gasped.

I caught him before he fell. His claws were still extended, his eyes unfocused with pain.

“What happened?”

He grabbed my arm with surprising strength. “They were looking for someone.”

“Who?”

His breathing turned shallow. “The lady.”

I looked toward Flourish. She had gone completely still.
