Chapter 228 Beneath Stonehedge
Alpha Damian’s POV

The lights went out across the Stonehedge estate, and the growl beneath our feet became louder until the floor vibrated under my boots.

I immediately reached for Flourish and pulled her behind me while my other hand went to the weapon secured at my side.
“Stay close to me,” I said.
Elara moved toward us in the darkness, but Magnus caught her arm before she could take another step.
Marwin ordered the warriors to form a defensive circle, and within seconds, phones were pulled from pockets as their flashlights cut through the darkness.
The growl came again, deeper this time, and the wooden floor beneath us shifted slightly. Flourish grabbed my arm, and I felt her fingers tighten when another vibration travelled through the estate.
“It is below us,” she whispered.
I already knew that. The sound was coming from somewhere beneath the lower foundation, close enough that I could feel the movement through my feet.
Rhys tried calling from the security room, but the call disconnected before he could speak.
I checked my phone and saw that the estate network was still active, but every camera feed had gone black at exactly the same time.
“That is not a power failure,” I said.
Magnus looked toward the corridor. “Then someone shut the system down.”
A sharp crack came from beneath the floor, followed by a burst of warm air that pushed through the gaps between the wooden panels.
Several warriors shifted instinctively, their wolves responding to the pressure coming from below.
Flourish suddenly stiffened beside me. Her breathing changed, and when I looked at her face, her eyes had begun turning gold.
“Damian,” she said quietly.

I stepped closer. “What is it?”
“My wolf can hear them.”

The words had barely left her mouth when every warrior in the room went silent. Somewhere beneath the estate, dozens of claws scraped against stone.
My stomach tightened. The eastern army had disappeared from Rhys’s thermal cameras, but they had not vanished.
They had gone underground.
A phone rang in the darkness, and everyone turned toward the sound. It belonged to Marwin, who answered it immediately and put the call on speaker.
Rhys’s breathing was hurried. “Alpha, I found something.”
“Talk.”
“The thermal system just came back online for twelve seconds, and I caught movement under the eastern wing.” His voice dropped. “There are people down there.”
“How many?”
“I counted forty-seven before the feed disappeared again.”
Magnus swore under his breath. “That is only part of the army.”
Rhys did not answer immediately. When he finally spoke, his voice was tense.
“There are more beneath the central estate.”
Another growl shook the room, and this time Flourish doubled over. I caught her before she fell, feeling the heat radiating from her skin.
Her eyes were completely gold.
“Elara,” she whispered.
Her mother stepped forward, fear visible on her face for the first time since we had found her. “The old tunnels.”
I looked at her. “What old tunnels?”
“The ones Garret used when he sealed the First Alpha.”

The room became completely still.
Magnus turned toward Elara. “You knew about them?”

“I knew they existed,” she replied. “I did not know they were still connected to the estate.”
Flourish straightened slowly, and I kept my hand around her waist. Her wolf was fighting for control beneath her skin, and the pressure coming from below was becoming stronger with every second.
Then the estate doors slammed shut.
The warriors immediately raised their weapons, but nothing stood behind us. A second later, every electronic lock in the building engaged at once.
Rhys’s voice came through Marwin’s phone again. “Alpha, I have another problem.”
“What?”
“The estate’s internal security system is being controlled from a local terminal.”
My eyes moved toward the hallway leading to the study. That terminal was supposed to require my authorization, and no one outside the senior command circle should have been able to access it.
“Can you identify the user?”
“No,” Rhys replied. “But I can tell you the access point.”
“Where?”
There was a pause.
“Your father’s old office.”
Magnus’s expression changed immediately. The growl beneath us stopped.
That silence was worse.
Flourish lifted her head, listening carefully, and her hand tightened around mine. I felt her pulse racing beneath my fingers.
“They stopped,” she whispered.
“Why?”
She looked toward the staircase.

“Because they are coming up.”
A heavy impact struck the floor below us.
The warriors spread out immediately, forming two lines around Flourish, Elara, Magnus, and me. I drew my weapon and moved toward the staircase, keeping Flourish behind my left shoulder.
Another impact followed.
Then another.
The stone beneath the stairs cracked. A hand pushed through the floor.
One of the warriors stepped back, but I raised my hand and stopped him from firing.
The claws emerging through the broken stone were not human, and the scent reaching us was unlike anything I had encountered from a rogue or ordinary wolf.
