Chapter 288 A Quiet Night
Lady Flourish POV
By the time the tribunal was over, I was tired of hearing people discuss my

The tunnels, the First Alpha records, Voss, the people trying to reach me, the attacks on those around me. Even Garret’s poisoning had become part of the same mess.
That evening, Damian came into my office at F-Tech while I was still going through a contract.
“You’re done.”
I looked up.
“I have three more pages.”
“No.”
I stared at him.
He took the papers from my hands and placed them on the desk.
“You’re coming with me.”
“Where?”
“You’ll find out.”
I should have argued. Instead, I shut my laptop.
An hour later, I understood why he had insisted.
We were at a cinema.
A normal cinema.
No council members. No guards standing at every door. No old records or bloodline seals waiting to be explained. Just people buying popcorn, arguing over seats, and complaining about the price of drinks.
Damian had dressed properly for the evening, in a dark shirt, fitted trousers, and a jacket that made him look far more formal than anyone else in the theater.

I noticed people staring at him almost immediately.
He pretended not to notice.
I leaned closer.
“Do you know everyone is looking at you?”
“I’ve noticed.”
“You’re enjoying it.”
“No.”
His wolf gave a quiet response from somewhere behind his thoughts.
“Maybe.”
I laughed.
“You heard that.”
“I heard nothing.”

We got our popcorn and drinks before finding our seats. I had barely taken two handfuls when three young women stopped beside Damian.
One of them smiled.
“Excuse me. Are you Damian Virel?”
He looked at her.
“Yes.”
Her eyes widened.
“Oh my God. Can we get your autograph?”
I almost choked on my popcorn.
Damian glanced at me.
The women followed his gaze.
I was already smiling.

“I don’t sign autographs,” he said.
“Please? Just one.”
“No.”
Another woman pulled out her phone.
“Can we take a picture?”
Damian looked increasingly uncomfortable.
I was enjoying myself far too much.
He put an arm around my shoulders.
“My wife doesn’t like that.”
There was a short silence.
I turned my head slowly.
“Your wife?”
He looked down at me.
“Yes.”
I started laughing.
The women apologized and moved away, still whispering among themselves.
I waited until they were out of earshot.
“You used me.”
“You were standing right there.”
“That makes it worse.”
“You’re laughing.”
“Because you sounded terrified.”
“I wasn’t terrified.”
His wolf gave another quiet response.

“Embarrassed.”
I covered my mouth to keep from laughing louder.
“You’re both impossible.”
The movie started before I could tease him further.
For the next two hours, I actually forgot about everything else.
I watched the film, ate too much popcorn, and occasionally caught Damian watching me instead of the screen. Each time I turned toward him, he looked away.
By the time the credits rolled, I was still smiling.
We walked out with the rest of the crowd.
A couple ahead of us stopped near the doors.
“I think that’s him,” the woman whispered.
Her partner glanced back.
“The actor?”
“No, the Alpha. The one from the news.”
I kept walking.
Then I heard her again.
“And apparently his wife is really jealous.”
I stopped.
Damian looked at me.
I pointed at myself.
“Apparently, I’m jealous.”
His mouth twitched.
“You heard her wrong.”
“She said it very clearly.”

We continued toward the parking lot.
“So,” I said, “should I start checking your phone?”
“No.”
“Should I follow you to every council meeting?”
“No.”
“Should I stop women from asking you for pictures?”
“You’ve been waiting all night to make fun of me.”
“I absolutely have.”
He shook his head.
His wolf sounded pleased.
“She likes this.”
I smiled.
“Oh, don’t pretend your wolf isn’t enjoying himself.”
Damian looked at me.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“He’s smug.”
“He is.”
“At least you admit it.”
We reached the car, and he opened my door.
I paused before getting in.
“You know, if you hadn’t announced that you had a jealous wife, those women probably would have left you alone.”
“They wouldn’t have.”
“How do you know?”

“Because one of them followed us halfway across the lobby.”
I looked behind us.
She was gone.

I burst out laughing.
“You’re lying.”
“I am not.”
“You are.”
He closed my door before I could continue.
The drive home was quiet. I rested my head against the seat and watched the city pass outside the window.
For once, there was nothing waiting for me.
No urgent message.
No attack.
No council summons.
No one asking about the First Alpha.
My wolf was quiet too.
“She is happy.”
I smiled to myself.
“I am.”
It was the first time in weeks that I had felt completely safe enough to stop watching every door.
When we got home, Damian made tea while I changed. We sat together in the living room, talking about nothing important. He told me about something one of his warriors had done that morning, and I laughed so hard I nearly spilled my drink.
Later, when we went upstairs, I didn’t check my phone.

I didn’t think about Voss.
I didn’t think about the tunnels.
I didn’t think about bloodlines.
I simply fell asleep beside my mate.
The peace lasted until morning.
My phone rang before I had fully opened my eyes.
Rhys.
I answered immediately.
“What happened?”
“We’ve got a problem.”
I sat up.
“What kind?”
