Chapter 313 The Sister They Buried

Lady Flourish POV

I stared at her. For several seconds, nobody spoke. Damian sent for Rhys and Callum, and Sera came back with them. Then I turned to Maelin.

“What sister?”

She glanced at Damian before returning her attention to me. “The second vessel.”

“I know the title. I want the truth.”

Her face tightened. “The child was publicly declared dead.”

“Publicly?”

“Yes. The announcement went out across the allied packs. We were told she had died because her existence threatened the bloodline.”

I shook my head. “Where is her body?”

“There wasn’t one.”

The words came quietly, but they changed the room.

“You declared a child dead without a body?”

“We were never shown one.”

“Who gave you the story?”

“The Stonehedge elders.”

I looked at Callum. He had gone very still. “You knew?”

He rubbed a hand over his jaw. “I knew there was another child. I was told she had been taken somewhere safe.”

“By whom?”

“Garret.”

My stomach dropped. “Garret told you my sister was alive?”

“He didn’t say she was alive. He said she had been moved. I assumed the elders knew more than

I did.”

“That isn’t what you told us before.”

“I never knew enough to tell you.”

Anger rose fast, but I forced myself to breathe. “You all knew there was another child, and I was the only one who didn’t.”

Callum looked away.

Maelin stepped forward. “Your family said the second vessel couldn’t remain near you. They believed the bloodline would become unstable if both children were raised together.”

“Who believed that?”

“Your elders, the people who controlled Stonehedge then.”

“And they decided she was dead?”

“They decided that was the safest story.”

I stared at the table. The bloodline records had already suggested that someone had erased my sister from my childhood.

Now I was hearing that her death had been announced without proof. I didn’t believe it.

“Tell me what the announcement said.”

Maelin hesitated. “That the second child was born with an unstable blood connection. It claimed she could affect the wolves around her and that keeping her alive would put the allied packs at risk.”

“That sounds convenient.”

“It was.”

“You never believed it?”

“Some did. I did not.”

“Then why obey?”

“Because the First Alpha council threatened to cut every pack off from the protection network if we refused.”

I looked at Damian. “So they used the network to force obedience.”

“That’s why we stopped answering its calls,” Maelin said. “We wanted no part in that control.”

“Rhys.”

He was already reaching for his tablet.

“Search every old transport record connected to Stonehedge. Medical transfers, private vehicles, pack escorts, everything. Go back as far as the archive allows.”
