Chapter 62 You Can’t Get Up?
dy Flourish’s POV
My wolf knew the Alpha pressure before my mind caught up. The trembling slowed, not gone, still curled tight under my skin, but the frantic pacing finally stopped.
Cedar. Cold night air. Something unmistakably Damian.
I should have looked up. Instead my fingers found my phone, and around me the hallway kept moving firefighters clearing equipment, staff murmuring, the emergency team debating the malfunction farther down the corridor.
None of it registered. I stared at Davina’s name and called.
“Hey, sweetie. Missing me already?”
I opened my mouth. Nothing came out.
“Flourish?” The cheer dropped out of her voice.
I pressed my forehead to my knees. “Can you come to Virel Studios? I’m on the twelfth floor.”
A sharp breath. “What happened? Flourish, are you alright?”
I wanted to say yes, the way I always did. I’m fine, I can handle it, I don’t need anyone hovering. My body disagreed.
“I…” Nothing else came.
“Don’t move. I’m coming right now.”
She hung up. I lowered the phone and started counting minutes. Nineteen of them, by the time footsteps finally came.
I stayed on the floor outside that broken elevator the whole time, refusing the water twice offered, refusing the healer, refusing the offer to help me downstairs, because every time I tried to stand my wolf reacted like the walls were closing in again and my chest locked up before my legs could even try.
I wouldn’t have called Davina at all if I hadn’t been out of options. This was Harold’s building.
I didn’t want anyone here seeing me like this, and especially not him. But when the doors opened and I needed someone, he’d left with Phina.
I knew we were over. I’d ended it myself. That didn’t stop it from stinging.
“Flourish!”
Davina was already running toward me, and whatever composure I’d been holding onto slipped the second I saw her. She dropped to a crouch, hair swinging over one shoulder.
“Are you okay?*

“Dev. The nickname just came out. “You’re here.”
here.” She took my hand, warm fingers closing over mine. “What happened?”
“I’m fine. My legs just went weak.”
“You can’t stand?”
“A little.”
That was when I noticed the second person crouched beside her. Tall, broad-shouldered, dark green eyes. Damian.
I hadn’t even heard him arrive. His face was calm, too calm, but his scent had an edge to it, sharp with the temper of an Alpha who’d walked into something he didn’t like.
His eye moved over me, my face, my hands, the way I had my knees pulled to my chest, and settled on my legs

before I finished the sentence. One arm under my knees, the other behind my back, and he off the floor before I could object.

blinked, for once actually speechless. “Oh.” Her eyes went between us. “Oh.” Then she hurried ahead.
was mortified. I run a company. I negotiate contracts. I walked away from an Alpha and a whole Lunar Rite ithout blinking, and here I was being carried through Virel Studios like I’d forgotten how legs worked.
My wolf had considerably fewer complaints. Cedar, winter air, the warmth off his skin, and the panic
lawing at my chest started to loosen despite myself. Embarrassed, I shifted in his arms.
Don’t move.” Quiet, but it stopped me instantly. My wolf obeyed before I did.
He freed one hand long enough to brush a strand of hair from my face, brief, almost careless, and my heart stumbled anyway.
It’s not your legs,” he said, voice softer now. “I’m carrying you to the car.”
looked away. That didn’t help.
The elevator was empty. Davina stepped in first, Damian followed with me still in his arms, and the doors
closed.
My whole body went rigid, the walls, the seal of the doors, and my wolf stirred right back toward panic
efore his hold tightened just slightly, not enough to hurt, just enough to remind me I wasn’t alone.

I held onto his scent instead of the fear. My breathing stayed uneven, but I didn’t lose it.
By the time the doors opened on the garage, I let out a breath I’d been holding the whole ride.
He carried me straight to the car, set me down carefully in the backseat, and only then stepped back. The loss of his warmth felt sharper than it should have.
He shut the door and looked at Davina. “Sit in the back.”
“Me?”
“Watch your friend.”
Davina looked at me, then him, then back at me, deeply suspicious. “Oh.” She climbed in beside me, and the car pulled out.

back there?” Davina asked, frowning. “That was Harold’s company. If something happened n’t he there?”
