I Refuse To Be Your Luna (Flourish and Harold) novel Chapter 85

Chapter 85 The One Thing I Can’t Give

Alpha Harold’s POV

I arrived at the funeral hall separately from my parents.

Phina stepped out of another car a few moments later, dressed in a modest black dress with a white flower pinned neatly to her chest.

Her expression was solemn enough that no one would have guessed she had become the center of Stonehedge’s gossip overnight.

Without exchanging many words, we walked into the mourning hall together.

The faint scent of white chrysanthemums drifted through the air, blending with the smoke from hundreds of memorial candles.

Every conversation was hushed, every movement subdued, making the entire hall feel unbearably heavy.

I stepped before Lady Josephine’s portrait and bowed deeply.

The old woman in the photograph wore the same gentle smile I remembered.

She had always treated me kindly.

Even after Flourish and I began drifting apart, she never once blamed me to my face.

After placing my white flower before her portrait, I silently lit a memorial candle.

Rest in peace, Grandma Josephine.

When I straightened, my eyes swept across the hall almost instinctively.

Guests filled every corner.

Members of the Garett family stood near the entrance, receiving condolences one after another.

The Virel family occupied another side of the hall.

Yet… I couldn’t find Flourish anywhere.

“Harold?” Phina’s gentle voice brought me back to reality.

I turned toward her, and she was watching me quietly. “Are you looking for someone?”

For a split second, I almost admitted it. Instead, I forced an easy smile onto my face and shook my head. “No. I’m just checking around.”

She studied me for another moment before giving a small nod.

I cleared my throat. “Phina, I’m going to the restroom. Stay here for a moment, okay?”

She smiled obediently. “All right.”

After leaving her side, I walked deeper into the funeral hall. The excuse about the restroom had been nothing more than that.

An excuse.

Damian wasn’t the only person who understood what Lady Josephine meant to Flourish.

I knew it too.

For six years, I had watched that old woman become the only place Flourish ever called home.

When everyone else criticized her…

Lady Josephine defended her.

When everyone else ignored her….

Lady Josephine stayed beside her.

She had been Flourish’s entire world. Now, that world had disappeared.

I couldn’t stop picturing her somewhere alone. Maybe her eyes were swollen from crying. Maybe she was forcing herself to greet guests while holding everything inside. My wolf paced restlessly beneath my skin.

Even if she hated me now, even if she never wanted to see me again, I didn’t want her to shoulder this kind of grief alone.

“Harold?” A familiar voice called from behind me.

I turned. “Selene.”

She walked toward me dressed in mourning clothes, her expression carrying just the right amount of sadness. “Who are you looking for?”

I didn’t think much about the question. “Have you seen Flourish?”

Something flickered across Selene’s eyes. “So… you’re looking for Flourish?”

Funished

“Yes.” I nodded without hesitation. “She was extremely close to her grandma. I just want to see how she’s doing.”

The breakup had happened only days ago, het somehow, it already felt unbearably distant. Almost like something that belonged to another lifetime.

Flourish had always been stubborn. She carried everything by herself. She refused to ask for help even when she desperately needed it.

Maybe… Maybe if I simply found her…

Said a few comforting words… She would feel a little less miserable.

A faint light suddenly appeared in Selene’s eyes. “Oh, Harold, you really are kind. After everything she did to you, you’re still worried about her.”

She lowered her voice. “I actually saw her earlier. She was talking to a man just around that corner. If you want, I can show you.”

A man? My brows knitted together immediately.

“A man? Who is he? Where did he come from?”

Selene bit her lip as though she regretted speaking. “Actually, maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”

The warmth inside my chest disappeared almost instantly. “So there really is someone.”

I stared at her. “Which corner?”

My voice came out colder than I intended.

She hesitated before pointing toward one of the quieter corridors. “Over there. But…’

She looked at me anxiously. “Please don’t tell Flourish I told you. I don’t want her getting upset with me.”

“I won’t.” The words left my mouth before I had fully processed them.

Without another glance at Selene, I turned and strode toward the corridor.

Whatever sympathy had occupied my thoughts only moments ago evaporated almost immediately.

A single question echoed relentlessly inside my mind.

Fanhed

Who was the man?

Was this why she had insisted on ending our betrothal?

Had she already found another wolf?

The further I walked, the darker my expression became.

So that’s how it is.

She was in such a hurry to end the Luna Rite…

Not because she couldn’t forgive me, but because she already had someone else waiting.

I rounded the corner, and nearly walked straight into her.

Flourish wasn’t standing beside any man. She was alone.

She was squatting quietly beside a white memorial canvas, her gaze resting silently on the flickering candles lined beneath Lady Josephine’s name.

The morning light spilled through the windows, outlining her slender figure in pale gold.

She looked impossibly small.

Almost fragile.

She slowly lifted her head after sensing my presence.

“You…” The word slipped from my lips. The question about the other man lodged stubbornly in my throat.

For some reason, I couldn’t ask it. Instead, I found myself saying something entirely different.

“Are you alright?” My voice remained restrained, almost distant.
