Chapter 87 The Bracelet That Slipped Away

Lady Flourish’s POV

The seventh day after Grandma’s passing came and went like a dream I never wanted to wake from.

I had taken an entire week away from F-Tech, shutting myself inside my room and speaking to almost no one. The world outside continued to move as though nothing had happened, but mine had come to a complete standstill.

When the seventh day finally arrived, I woke before sunrise and went straight into the kitchen.

Grandma had always loved simple meals more than extravagant feasts. She liked homemade food prepared with care, saying that sincerity was the finest seasoning in the world.

So I spent the entire afternoon cooking.

I made every dish she loved most, carefully rolling meatballs by hand until they were perfectly round before simmering them over low heat.

Beside them sat a pot of pumpkin soup that had been bubbling gently since midday, its sweet aroma filling every corner of the house.

I stirred it patiently again and again, making sure it never scorched.

Mira stood quietly nearby the entire time. She offered help more than once, but I declined every time.

These dishes had to be made by me.

When evening finally came, I carried every plate into the dining room one by one.

Grandma’s photograph had already been placed neatly on the table.

I lit a white candle before it and watched the tiny flame dance gently.

The room suddenly became unbelievably quiet.

I looked at the familiar smiling face in the photograph before speaking softly.

“Grandma, it’s been seven days since you left. I hope you can come home for dinner tonight.”

I lowered my eyes to the dishes spread across the table.

“I cooked everything myself. I hope it’s to your liking.”

After saying those words, I returned to the kitchen.

Grandma had once told me that during the seventh-day memorial, the departed would come home one last time to visit the people they loved most.

Whether it was true or not, I wanted to believe it.

So I quietly waited fifteen minutes before returning to the dining room.

The dishes remained untouched, just as they had been.

Even so, I smiled faintly. “It’s okay, Grandma. I know you came.”

Across the room, Lydia sat stiffly on the sofa, her patience visibly wearing thin. Selene looked even more irritated.

She folded her arms and rolled her eyes dramatically. “Mom, honestly, who even feels like eating after all that?”

I pulled out a chair, sat down calmly, and picked up my chopsticks. “No one asked you to eat.” I glanced at her without warmth. “If you don’t like it, then keep quiet.”

My gaze shifted slowly between her and Lydia. “This house belonged to my grandma. When both of you are gone one day, no one will be placing offerings here for you.”

Selene’s face flushed immediately. “You-”

Before she could continue, Lydia shot her a calm warning glance. That single look silenced her.

Then Lydia turned toward me with a gentle smile that looked almost convincing. “Flourish, your grandma would be grateful for everything you’ve done.”

I didn’t respond. I simply finished a small portion of food before clearing the table by myself.

Every plate went back into the kitchen exactly the same way I had carried it out.

Just as I finished washing my hands, Lydia walked over.

“Flourish.”

I looked at her quietly.

“There is an auction tomorrow. Come with me.”

My expression cooled. “My grandma just passed away. I’m not interested in that sort of event.”

Lydia smiled patiently. “I think you’ve misunderstood. There will be a bracelet auctioned tomorrow. I saw it during the preview, and I thought it would suit your grandma perfectly.”

She paused before adding gently, “If we buy it and bring it with us the next time we visit her cemetery, I’m sure she’ll love it.”

My eyes narrowed ever so slightly. After several moments of silence, I finally nodded. “…Fine. I’ll go.”

Back in my room, I searched for the auction catalogue online.

Sure enough, the bracelet Lydia mentioned was listed among tomorrow’s featured items.

It wasn’t especially extravagant.

Instead, it possessed an elegant simplicity that reminded me strangely of Grandma herself.

Without thinking much about it, I opened my chat with Dev.

Flourish: Dev, are you going tomorrow? I want to bid on a bracelet for Grandma.

Her reply came less than a minute later.

Dev: Sorry, Flourish. Auctions aren’t really my thing.

A few seconds later another message appeared.

Dev: But last time I rode home with my brother, I overheard him talking to his assistant.

Dev: He said there’s a painting-or maybe a piece of calligraphy-that caught his eye.

Dev: He’s planning to buy it as a gift.

I remembered Damian’s words from the day he drove me to the hospital.

Whatever you want.

A strange feeling passed through my chest before disappearing just as quickly.

I typed back.

Flourish: Got it, Dev. That’s okay. Thanks.

She immediately responded with a heart emoji. I smiled faintly before putting my phone aside.

The following afternoon, I dressed entirely in dark green.

Green had always been Grandma’s favorite color.

Instead of makeup, I wore a simple mask that covered the lower half of my face.

The moment Selene saw me, she rolled her eyes dramatically.

“Seriously? You don’t even have to wear black, but dressing like that is just strange.”

I didn’t slow my steps. “What I choose to wear isn’t your concern.”

I shot her a frosty glance before walking confidently toward the auction hall. Inside, the venue was already packed.

Rows upon rows of wealthy guests filled the luxurious seats while attendants moved gracefully through the aisles.

As I sat beside Lydia, I noticed her discreetly lower her head and send someone a message. A second later, her phone vibrated.

She glanced at the screen. ‘Are you in Room 709?’

The reply came almost instantly. Yes. I’m here, waiting for your instructions.

I noticed the exchange but chose to ignore it. Whatever Lydia was planning had nothing to do with me.

My attention remained fixed on the auction stage.

One item after another was sold.

Paintings.

Jewelry.

Ancient wolf artifacts.

Rare gemstones.

Finally, the bracelet I had been waiting for appeared beneath the spotlight. The auctioneer smiled brightly.

“Our next item begins at two hundred thousand.”

I picked up my paddle. Since Lydia had invited me here, I assumed the Garrett family would be paying for the purchase.

After all…
