Chapter 161
“A family? Did I miss something?” Lucian’s thin lips pursed; his tone was emotionless
He strode inside, shedding his coat and handing it to a servant before settling on the sofa’s edge, discreetly glancing at me
He sat, legs crossed, his expression indifferent, his body slightly angled towards Ragnar.
He seemed to find the room too warm; he loosened two buttons on his shirt, revealing his neck. A smirk touched his lips as he adjusted his collar.
Ragnar could see a dark red hickey beneath the collar-freshly made.
It was obvious who’d left it.
The intensity of the marks revealed the passion behind them.
Ragnar’s eyes darkened.
Lucian’s silence was a provocation, a silent declaration of ownership.
He’d stated repeatedly that I was his woman.
Calista missed Lucian’s actions, seeing only his careless demeanor.
She almost said, “You missed out on so much,” realizing that to Lucian, I was optional. If he cared, he wouldn’t be so calm with a formidable opponent like Ragnar.
She’d hinted about the blind date hoping to provoke him, but his attitude showed he wouldn’t let me go easily.
She gave up on pairing us.
“Ragnar had an appointment with Seren today, and they hit it off.”
Lucian’s eyes deepened at the news of our mutual attraction, glancing at me.”Is that so?”
A warning flickered in his eyes.
I understood; he wanted me to deny having feelings for Ragnar in front of Calista.
His possessiveness wouldn’t allow it.
My lips curled coldly; I refused to play along. But I didn’t want to involve Ragnar in our conflict. I hesitated, the word “yes” on the tip of my
tongue.
“Yes!” Ragnar spoke, looking at me.
I looked at him. He glanced at me, then at Lucian, speaking calmly but firmly, “I intend to formally pursue Seren.”
This was a direct response to Lucian’s provocation.
The hickey was meant to intimidate; he didn’t care.
“Doesn’t Mr. Blackthorneknow her identity?” Lucian smirked, but the coldness in his eyes remained. He’d vaguely mentioned our relationship to Calista. I, and Ragnar understood.
I was his mate; we had a daughter.
Calista, lacking the memories of the past five years, thought Lucian was hurting me. Her face darkened.
