Chapter 164
I returned to Calista’s quarters, remembering how Lucian had opened my locked door.
I went to find Calista, coquettishly saying, “Calista, may I sleep with you tonight?”
“Of course, my dear.” Calista lovingly patted my head.
That night, I slept peacefully beside her.
Calista, older and less energetic, looked at me by the night lamp’s light.
She knew I didn’t mind her, unlike Selene, who claimed to love her but disliked her scent. Calista’s gaze softened.
Late that night, Lucian appeared outside my door, frowning at the empty room.
I was avoiding him.
The next morning, I walked with Calista to the dining room.
Lucian was already there.
“Grandma.”
“Um.” Calista’s response was indifferent; she still harbored resentment.
But she wouldn’t insist.
Lucian’s gaze fell on me; I looked away, focusing on the television.
Lucian usually joined Calista for breakfast unless he had engagements. The servant usually tuned to the financial channel, but today, it was social news.
“Blackthorne Heir Arrested for Alleged Rape.”
A dozen victims had come forward, providing evidence of assault.
The man’s face was blurred, but I recognized him instantly-David.
Memories of last night flashed before me.
If I hadn’t escaped, I would’ve been one of his victims.
I’d planned to report him to the Alpha’s warriors after the antidote wore off. Ragnar had said he would handle things.
I’d expected him to give David a lesson and let it go, but this was beyond my expectation.
David, a Smith, like the Silvermanes, valued reputation greatly.
Seeing this news, a wave of satisfaction washed over me.
