I Regret Being Alpha’s Secret Mate novel Chapter 5

Chapter 5

I clenched my fists, the thought burning in my mind: I had to get out of here.

But I couldn’t just leave. I had to get my hands on our Mating Pact. Without it, I had no way to prove who I was, and I certainly couldn’t force a Rejection from Julian.

Luckily, Julian hadn’t completely restricted my freedom of movement. He had simply ordered his Enforcers to watch the doors and forbid me from stepping outside the estate.

I managed to slip into the Alpha’s study and found the safe. I tried several passwords—my birthday, Julian’s birthday, even the day we marked each other—but none of them worked.

Finally, I pulled out my phone and searched for Serena’s birthday.

Click.

The safe door swung open.

Watching the door pop open, my heart felt like it had been run through with a blade.

I let out a laugh. “So, you stopped loving me a long time ago. Julian.”

Then, I saw it—the Mating Pact.

But the moment my fingers brushed against it, a piercing alarm blared throughout the entire estate. Every light in the house went out instantly.

Chaos erupted outside the door. I heard the heavy thud of boots and panicked voices.

“Someone broke into the Alpha’s study! Find them, now!”

Opening the safe had triggered the security system. Even if the code was correct, the safe would trigger an alarm if it recognized the person wasn’t Julian himself.

I shoved the Mating Pact into my pocket and tried to navigate the darkness. I felt my way along the wall, but just as I reached the door, a heavy bag was thrown over my head.

A blunt blow struck the back of my skull, and I blacked out instantly.

When I woke up, I was still trapped inside the bag.

I heard the muffled voice of one of Julian’s Enforcers.

“The Alpha said to break her limbs, then dump her in front of the Pack Dungeon.”

My heart jolted with terror. “I’m Chloe Bennett!” I rasped, my voice cracking. “Let me speak to Julian. I’m his mate!”

Suddenly, the bag was ripped off my head.

A man looked down at me with a mocking, cruel smirk.

“Mate? The Alpha’s Future Luna is Serena Thorne. Who the hell do you think you are?”

“You’re caught stealing on Blood Moon property and you have the nerve to claim you’re the mate of the Alpha?”

I didn’t recognize this man. He must have been a new recruit. Most of the elite guards I knew were usually stationed right next to Julian. It made sense that he didn’t know who I was.

I struggled to lift my head. “I really am Julian Vance’s mate. If you don’t believe me, call him right now!”

The Enforcer cut me off with a cold sneer. “Call him? Don’t you know the Alpha is at an elite gala with Serena tonight? He gave strict orders that no one was to disturb them.”
