Chapter 6
When I woke up again, I was in a pack infirmary, wrapped in bandages like a mummy.
The healer was rough as she stuck the IV needle into my arm.
But I was already numb to the pain. I lay there, my gaze vacant and my spirit shattered.
“Look at you. You look like such a decent female. Why would you go and steal from the Alpha’s estate? You deserved to be beaten half to death.”
“Besides, that was Blood Moon property. They rule this territory. You must have a death wish.”
“Once you’re stable, you’re looking at several days in the dungeon, at the very least.”
As she rambled on, I tried to speak.
My parched lips cracked, tearing at my wounds.
“Please… can I make a phone call?”
She looked at me in shock.
“Are you insane? Do you even know where you are? This is the dungeon’s infirmary. You were brought in for theft. Everything you own has been confiscated. Once you’re stable, you’re facing the holding cells.”
Tears pooled in my eyes as I whispered, “What about Alpha Julian? Can I see him?”
Before I was knocked out, I had grabbed what I thought was our Mating Pact. But the names and pack seals on it belonged to Serena Thorne.
In that moment, I only wanted to ask him one thing: what happened?
Why? Why had my identity been stripped away, turning me from his fated mate into nothing more than a dirty secret in the blink of an eye?
I had always thought that as long as I was his mate, I could endure the insults and the pack’s hatred. I believed that one day, when our bond was public, I would stand proudly by Julian’s side.
I wouldn’t be the shameless Omega anymore.
I wouldn’t be the rank—climber everyone wanted to hunt down.
But that Mating Pact—the one thing that could have proven who I was—had dragged me straight to hell.
I had endured so much, only to be faced with such a cruel reality.
I couldn’t accept it.
“Could you please… just help me call Julian? Tell him Chloe Bennett is looking for him. It’s important. Please.”
The healer looked at me like I was a lost cause.
“The Alpha is at a resort with the Future Luna. An Omega like you doesn’t just ‘call’ someone like him. Have you lost your mind?”
