"She told you I was the other woman?"
She had heard of a hypocrite, but this was a whole new level—the real homewrecker pointing fingers.
Four years ago, after dating Finn for three years, he broke up with her, claiming it was for Chloe.
She believed that women shouldn't tear each other down, so she never publicly called Chloe a homewrecker.
Finn was the one who betrayed their relationship.
It was between the two of them.
She never imagined that Chloe would actually parade around the world playing the victim.
It was utterly pathetic.
"Chloe?" Lily looked at Sienna.
"That sounds so familiar... Is it that Chloe? Is she out of her mind?"
Seeing Sienna stay quiet, Paxton assumed she was too stunned to speak.
He gave a cold, mocking smile.
"I'm Chloe's friend. She's my mentor's daughter, and I've known her for over a decade. She told me all about you. How you stole her man, wrecked her family, and drove her to self-harm. You're a doctor. It's supposed to be an angelic profession. If a vicious person like you is treating patients, do they even survive?"
Lily exploded, pointing a furious finger at Paxton:
"You just blindly believe whatever Chloe tells you? Are you her pet dog?"
Paxton's face flushed with humiliated rage.
"What did you just say? Watch your mouth!"
"I said you're a dog! A vicious dog that just bites people for Chloe!"
The exhibition hall dissolved into total chaos.
People were shouting, taking photos, and scrambling to call security.
Paxton's manager tried to drag him away, but Paxton violently shoved him aside.
Lily refused to back down, still screaming insults.
Sienna tried to pull her away, but she wouldn't budge.
Security arrived, and shortly after, the police showed up.
In the middle of the frantic pushing and shoving, Sienna heard someone shout, "Take them all in!"
-
5:00 PM, The 5th Precinct.
The hallway felt endlessly long. The fluorescent lights were blindingly white, and the air reeked of harsh disinfectant.
Sienna sat on a hard wooden bench, staring at the blank wall opposite her. There was a bold slogan plastered across it.
"Cooperation leads to leniency." She stared at those words for a long time, her mind buzzing with white noise.
This was the first time in her life she had ever been in a police station.
Not because she had done anything wrong, but because someone had spread vicious rumors about her.
Lily sat beside her, her eyes rimmed red, her lips still trembling.
"I'm so sorry, Sienna. I never should have dragged you there.
I had no idea Paxton was like that. My image of him is completely shattered. I can't even pick up the pieces."
Sienna squeezed her hand.
"It's fine."
"How can it be fine? He said all those awful things about you in front of all those people... And now... did we break the law?"
Lily choked on a sob, her tears finally spilling over.
"No. Hurry up and leave, stop interfering with our work."
Lily refused to move, caught in a standoff with the officer.
Sienna looked at her, deeply moved.
Just moments ago, Lily had been crying in fear, but now she was bravely talking back to the police, all for Sienna's sake.
Sienna reached out and gently pinched Lily's cheek, offering a deliberately casual smile:
"Don't worry about me. I already called a colleague from the hospital. He'll be here soon."
Lily's eyes lit up:
"Is it Director Holloway?"
Sienna nodded.
"Yeah, it's him. Go on home with your aunt, don't make her worry."
Lily finally turned to leave, looking back over her shoulder with every step.
Sienna sat back down and glanced at the clock on the wall.
She comforted herself with the thought that even without someone to bail her out, they would release her in twenty-four hours anyway.
She was alone in the world. It didn't matter where she spent her time.
She closed her eyes, trying to rest her mind.
Footsteps echoed from the far end of the hallway.
Followed by a horribly familiar voice.
"Chloe, you finally made it."
Sienna's eyes snapped open.
