I Stopped Loving Him When He Let Me Bleed Out novel Chapter 142

But Finn turned and walked away.

Sienna stared at his back, utterly speechless.

The temporary tent area was set up on high ground.

The explosion had destroyed nearby buildings, and with a shortage of beds, all minor casualties and medical staff were relocated here.

Sienna held a blanket, waiting for an assignment.

An older local coordinator walked over, looked at her, and then at Finn, who was standing ten feet away.

"You two are married. Tent number three," he said in halting English.

Sienna tried to explain, but the old man had already turned away.

She chased after him, insisting they weren't husband and wife. The man just waved his hand—tents were scarce; they either shared or slept on the street.

The area was infested with venomous insects at night, like Aedes mosquitoes and kissing bugs, which could transmit Dengue fever or Chagas disease with a single bite.

Someone had died from an infection just days ago.

Sienna stopped arguing.

The tent was small, containing two cots spaced barely two feet apart.

Getting a tent at all was a luxury under the circumstances.

Sienna chose the cot further inside and tossed her blanket onto it.

Finn stood at the entrance, motionless.

"Just make do for one night," she said.

Finn turned to leave again.

Sienna scoffed in disbelief.

Psycho. If he wanted to sleep outside, fine. She didn't care.

At two in the morning, Sienna was jolted awake.

People were shouting outside the tent in a local dialect she didn't understand.

Thinking a new batch of wounded had arrived, she pushed open the flap and saw a group of locals circling someone lying on the ground.

The man was curled into a ball, trembling violently.

She pushed through the crowd.

Her heart skipped a beat.

It was Finn!

His face was swollen, his lips were purple, and large patches of hives covered his exposed skin.

Sienna knelt down, tore open his collar, and pressed her fingers against his carotid artery.

His pulse was rapid and irregular, his heart rate at least one hundred and thirty.

After over an hour of frantic work, his heart rate dropped, and his blood pressure stabilized.

Finn's breathing gradually evened out, and the swelling on his face began to recede.

Sienna collapsed onto the dirt floor, drenched in sweat.

The first-aid kit was empty, and used syringes littered the ground.

Finn leaned back against a rock, watching her profile.

"You've paid back your favor. You don't have to worry about me anymore."

Sienna's fingers paused.

He had seen right through her. She was indeed thinking that by repaying the debt from when he saved her that night, she could go back to hating and despising him without any guilt.

But now, the harder she tried to sever the ties, the more tangled they became.

Sienna stood up.

"You're right. You're on your own now!"

She turned to leave.

But after two steps, she stopped.

She hesitated for a moment, then turned back.

"Finn, I have one last thing to say to you..."
