It was Finn.
He held Sienna tightly, his predatory gaze locked onto the furious mob.
Paxton stood in front of Sienna, his hands raised in surrender, the diplomatic smile frozen on his face.
"Everyone, calm down! We aren't the same doctors from last month. We are genuinely here to help. Why don't you make a phone call and verify? Let's not start an international incident."
No one was listening.
One villager lunged forward and shoved Paxton hard in the chest. He stumbled, barely catching his balance.
Seeing this, Finn dragged Sienna behind him, shielding her entirely with his body.
The villagers closed in, the wooden grips of their machetes groaning under their white-knuckled grip.
Just as all hope seemed lost.
Finn suddenly shouted something—not in English.
Sienna couldn't understand a word, but she saw Chief Aris's hand freeze in mid-air.
In that split second, the chief ordered his people to hold.
He stared at Finn.
"Who are you? How do you speak our tongue?"
Finn lifted his chin. This time, he spoke in English.
"I am this doctor's husband. We have a child of our own. We would never harm anyone else's children. Please, give us a chance. If we fail, you can do whatever you want with us. But right now, those twins are dying, and they deserve to live. Don't you want to give them that chance?"
Sienna's mind went entirely blank.
What the hell was Finn talking about?
But she kept her mouth shut.
The villagers behind the chief began to murmur. Some hesitated, some shook their heads, while others kept trying to push forward.
Chief Aris raised his hand, and absolute silence fell.
He stared at Finn, then at Sienna, remaining silent for a long time.
"You get one chance. Because you are married, and because you are parents."
Sienna was completely stunned. Finn's desperate lie actually worked?
She had no idea why the words "married" and "parents" carried so much weight here.
But the chief's attitude had undeniably shifted.
She didn't have time to overthink it. She grabbed her kit and headed inside.
Finn followed closely behind.
