Sienna drove in silence. When they finally reached Magnolia Residences, muscle memory took over, and she navigated the winding paths straight into the underground garage.
"We're here. You can head up yourself."
Finn didn't move an inch.
He slumped against the leather seat, his heavy lids peeling open to stare at her.
The dim fluorescent lights of the garage cast shadows across his face. His eyes were bloodshot from the alcohol, but beneath the haze, a storm of dark, unreadable emotions swirled.
"Walk me up," he demanded quietly.
"You can walk on your own two feet."
"No, I can't."
The words slipped out in a low, husky drawl. He sounded thoroughly intoxicated, shamelessly playing the helpless card.
Sienna's heart hammered against her ribs.
That subtle vulnerability was something the usually composed Finn would never show while sober.
She stared at him for a few agonizing seconds before unbuckling her seatbelt and stepping out.
She practically had to carry him into the elevator, his massive frame leaning heavily against her side.
"You're doing this on purpose. I know your tolerance is better than this," she muttered through gritted teeth.
Finn kept his face buried in the crook of her neck, successfully hiding a smug grin.
Pushed to her limit, she gave him a deliberate shove.
He let out a sharp hiss of pain.
Guilt instantly flooded her chest.
Under the harsh elevator lights, she finally noticed the edge of the bandages peeking out from his rolled-up sleeve. The pristine white fabric was now stained with fresh crimson.
"Who told you to drink like that? Did you forget you're literally injured?" she snapped.
Every biting word sounded like sweet music to his ears.
They finally reached the penthouse door.
She shoved him slightly. "Open it."
Finn turned his hazy gaze toward her.
"The code is your birthday. It hasn't changed."
Her heart did a painful stutter.
Biting down hard on her lip, she punched in the numbers.
Welcome home.
The automated voice from the smart lock sliced right through her defenses.
The moment she pushed the door open, the apartment lights flared to life.
