She picked up her wine glass from the table, stood up, and plastered the smile back onto her face.
"Everyone, I apologize. Sienna has had a bit too much to drink. She is indeed Finn's ex-girlfriend. They separated, and she's understandably bitter about it. Today is my birthday, so please, bear with her."
A few dismissive words.
She effortlessly shifted the blame back onto Sienna.
Painting her as a resentful, drunken, hysterical woman.
It was a plausible narrative.
After all, Yolanda was the high-and-mighty Mrs. Fletcher, leagues above this girl in her worn-out clothes.
Finn stood there.
Looking at Yolanda's smile, a cold chill ran through him.
"Mother," he spoke up.
His voice wasn't loud, but the banquet hall fell dead silent.
Yolanda looked at him, a clear warning flashing in her eyes.
"Finn, escort Sienna home. She's had too much to drink."
"She isn't drunk."
Yolanda's smile finally vanished completely.
"What did you say?"
"She isn't drunk. Mother, you promised me. Shouldn't you..."
Yolanda cut him off sharply.
"Finn, are you drunk too?"
Just as Finn was about to speak, a hand reached out from the side and gripped his shoulder.
The grip wasn't heavy, but it stopped him in his tracks.
It was Ford.
He was dressed in a dark gray suit, wearing a gentle smile, looking like the only unbothered person at the party.
